Nissan is a known name in the Guinness Book of World Records with a pair of 370Zs performing the longest
twin-vehicle drift
in Dubai back in 2014. Now, not long after the
MY17 GT-R
hit the scene at the New York Motor Show, the engineers at Nissan weren't resting on their laurels and sought after another record.
This time, the fastest drift record was in their sights. Picking a track suitable for this attempt fell to Dubai yet again. The Fujairah International Airport's 3km runway was picked in order to comfortably attack the drift. The 2016 GT-R was developed alongside Nismo specialists and prepared by GReddy, it wasn't going to hanging around for long with the engineers aiming for over 180mph. There are no specifics on what was done to the car bar that power was increased to 1380hp with all power being sent to the rear wheels.
Driven by Masato Kawabata, Japanese drift Champion, the GT-R managed a drift at 189.49mph holding a 30 degree angle easily removing Polish driver Jakub Przygonski's 135.44mph record from the top spot. Let's see if Nissan can go for the triple and get the longest drift.
