If you struggle to keep up with the updates and refreshes in the Porsche range, this latest announcement isn't going to help. At the LA motor show next week, six new
Panamera
models will be introduced. That's on top of the nine already available. And the upcoming
Shooting Brake
OK, so it's not quite as confusing as that may initially sound. Essentially there are two significant range additions - the updated V6 and a long-wheelbase 'Executive' model - being offered from launch in a few variants.
The twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 becomes the new entry point to the Panamera range, with another 20hp over the engine it replaces at 330hp and improved efficiency too - between 35.8 and 37.7mpg. All models are fitted with an eight-speed PDK gearbox. It's offered either as a regular Panamera at £66,386 - a Jaguar XJ V6 is £73,545, interestingly - or a Panamera 4 at £69,412.
The new Executive models clearly aim to push the luxury credentials of the Panamera, with a 150mm longer wheelbase, a panoramic roof, heated electric seats front and rear, adaptive air suspension and - wait for it - a standard roll-up sunblind.
Furthermore, for customers wealthy enough to consider a 4S or Turbo Executive, those models come with rear-axle steering and soft-close doors. Seemingly odd to restrict the latter to just two models but there we are.
Do some work (or watch YouTube) in comfort
Naturally for the most opulent model, the Panamera Executive options list is extensive. Buyers can add on a "large rear centre console", which brings with it folding tables and an inductive antenna connection for another phone. There is also a Rear Seat Entertainment package, adding a pair of 10.1-inch screens to the rear headrests which can also be used as tablets outside of the car. No excuse therefore not to make your powerfully built company director deals at every opportunity!
Both V6 and Executive Panamera models go on sale today; after the LA show reveal first deliveries are due in January. The Executive range starts at £69,412 for the Panamera 4 Executive, compared to £67,474 for the standard four-wheel drive car. There's also a 4 E-Hybrid Executive (£84,838) and a 4S Executive (£98,672), with the Turbo version topping the range at £122,480. The bonus needs to be spent somewhere, right?
