A new season of the Porsche Carrera Cup kicks off this weekend at Brands Hatch, and PH has been keeping an eye on the build up to what promises to be the most competitive season the championship has seen in a while.
Pro and Pro-Am 1 drivers in the latest 911 GT3 creations, as well as the Pro-Am 2 contenders in pre-2008 cars, will all be fighting for podium honours and a total prize-money pot in excess of £150k – not to mention the chance to show who’s quickest in the fastest one-make race series in Britain
The Pro category will be the front line battle area, with last season’s champion Tim Harvey already under serious threat from Porsche Test Day pace-setting contender Tim Bridgeman and double season-opener winner at Brands in 2008, Michal Caine.
‘Nobody will dominate, every driver will have their moments - keeping it (the championship) nice and balanced - the key is to be consistent,’ Harvey declared.
Pro-Am 1 includes newcomers who have already put their stamp on other championships and are ready to take the main stage here. Drivers like Tony Gilham, Scottish teenager Glynn Geddie, Irish charger Michael Leonard and Robert Lawson are all tipped as contenders for podium finishes as the season progresses.
19 cars will be ready to race on the grid this Saturday, and with 26 drivers signed up for season, each round should be well represented.
If you can’t make it to the races, PH plans to post race reports, comments and photos throughout the 2009 season.
