"How much for a Challenge Stradale?!" is how this story came about. Having featured one for sale not so long ago
at £300,000
we knew they were getting expensive, but £950,000? Someone's having a laugh, surely. Further investigation was required...
One for the Bad Parking thread
Turns out it's not a 360 CS for £950,000. Phew. What's for sale is the three ultimate versions of the 21st century Ferrari V8s - 360CS, 430 Scuderia and 458 Speciale - as one delicious Maranello multipack. Better value for money that way, isn't it?
Or is it? Let's go through the numbers. The Challenge Stradale is a late (2005) right-hand drive car, one of only 116 brought over here apparently. It has covered 11,000 miles in the past decade, has just picked up another stamp in its flawless Ferrari service history and - personal taste here rather than fact - looks amazing in black with red leather. Placing a value on it difficult, as the other Stradales currently for sale appear to be either very low mileage cars on POA or better used cars (good on them!) at less than £200K. This red right-hand drive car is for sale at £229,900 with 20,400 miles, so let's say the black car is in the region of £250K.
Strong trio when 510hp is the middle ground
430 Scuderia
. Perhaps because the 458 Italia was such a step change in the mid-engined Ferrari V8 formula, the fastest 430 doesn't appear hugely in demand at the moment. That being said, it will still be one hell of a car: 510hp, an F1 gearbox that's actually very good and 100kg less weight than an F430 should see to that.
This Scuderia, in black with a grey stripe and 5,600 miles recorded, unsurprisingly looks just as good as its counterparts in this line up. Again you're looking at around £250,000 for an equivalent car, if this car with 3,500 miles is an accurate gauge.
Then there's the Speciale. Even in this company, it stand out as something awesome. Not only is its 605hp nearly 100hp more than in a Scuderia, it carries the status of being the last mid-engined V8 Ferrari lightweight. Quite an honour to uphold.
Are 360s becoming better looking?
As the youngest car of the bunch, the Speciale has the lowest mileage; just 440 in fact. Again in black with a grey stripe, it looks almost subdued compared to the more commonly seen reds and yellows. Also just recently serviced, it's covered by the new Ferrari Service Plan until 2022. Nothing like a bit of peace of mind with a used car purchase...
Price? Around £400K actually, with comparable cars like this red example and this grey car also still with three-figure mileages. And if you think that's a lot, wait until you see what Apertas aregoing for.
For those that haven't kept up, that's a guesstimated total price of £900,000. Aston Martin Edinburgh, the dealer selling these incredible cars, is asking £950,000. Is that a fair premium? Given the provenance of these three, their condition and the convenience of buying them in one purchase, it doesn't seem unreasonable. Plus, if you like black Ferraris (guilty as charged here), it's quite the collection. Would you if you could? Or would the full million go on just one even more special Ferrari? We'd love to hear your thoughts!
FERRARI 360 CS, 430 SCUDERIA, 458 SPECIALE
Price: £950,000
Why you should: Three fabulous Ferraris available right now, premium not absurd
Why you shouldn't: Still a million quid, can only drive one at a time
