While the latest AMG E63 S is a far more complex and advanced car than any previous series AMG product, the general ethos and approach remains familiar: big V8, big saloon, big fun.
It's a formula that has come to define AMG over the past half a century, with a fair few iconic cars along the way. And having been mentioned in Dan's E63 video yesterday, it seemed like the appropriate moment to get an AMG Hammer into Pic Of The Week.
At a time when a BMW M5 was making 286hp, the Hammer swaggered in with anything up to 380hp in 6.0-litre guise. Three decades ago it cost another £20,000 more than the M5 as well. It typifies the big, bad, brash AMG approach that we've come to know and love, even if the AMG of 2017 has a rather broader range of talents.
For POTW we have the Hammer in all its broad-shouldered glory as a saloon in the desktop formats and then as a coupe for your smartphone. It's easier to justify both that way, right? Hammer time!
