What more can be said about the
Sierra RS500
? Well, hopefully quite a bit in fact, because PH was invited to a pre-Autosport media day this week with - whisper it - the opportunity to have a brief drive in both road and race versions.
More on that soon. Until then, it seemed high time that that most iconic of Ford touring cars was given its moment in the spotlight as POTW wallpaper. Oddly there isn't a wealth of motorsport images available, though that didn't stop us of course investigating every possible location for pics. Just to be sure. And then onto YouTube, as a reminder of the glory days...
It's one of those cars, isn't it? The history is so legendary and the appearance so iconic that you dedicate far more time to it than you planned. The picture you see here is from Brands Hatch in 1989, round 8 of that year's BTCC. Isn't it a sight to behold? Robb Gravett leads Andy Rouse, who's ahead of Mike Smith. All of them are in Sierra RS500s. Fourth place is taken by a Sierra RS500. Fifth place? You can't see them for Sierra RS500s. Great stuff.
So if you're a fan who watched them race, or someone who's come to appreciate the car later on, here's the RS500 wallpaper for you. Plus we have a little bonus, because it's Christmas. Chris Teagles was on photography duty for PH on Wednesday, so there's another wallpaper option from him with three racing RS500s and a pair of road cars too; take your pick!
