Why Lamborghini?
The driving experience. It’s one of the nicest cars to drive. I’ve had Porsches and Aston Martins in the past. I like the styling of the Astons, but they’re not so much fun to drive. I ordered the McLaren 12C a little while ago, but when it turned up I didn’t like it. It’s probably quicker than anything here in terms of getting around the mountain roads, but there comes a point where technology helps so much that it numbs the car. What Lamborghini loses to its rivals in terms of technology, it makes up for in drivability. You can throw these around and get a great thrill.
Why not Ferrari?
Styling, basically. Lamborghini is true to itself and does what it wants to do, whereas Ferrari has a habit of styling by committee. You look at the cars and you feel as though 12 people have had input into it and they can’t decide what it needs to be. There is a part of me that wants to tick that box, but with every new model that comes up I think, “I don’t want it.”
What’s been the best thing about the Grande Giro?
The driving. I had visions of this just being a parade with no real driving, but today renewed my faith with some good roads and I met some people who like to drive their cars fairly spiritedly.
Why Lamborghini?
They’re the sexiest, most sensual, most powerful cars. They’re number one. Why not Lamborghini? They fit my personality. In fact, when I went to buy a second car I bought a Lamborghini. And when I bought a third car I got another Lamborghini. I don’t see anything else.
Why not Ferrari?
Those are either V8s or front-engined V12s, which are not very sexy. Nobody wants to drive a car with the engine in the front! There’s the LaFerrari, but they’re only going to make 500 of them so I’d have to wait two years.
What’s been the best thing about the Grande Giro?
Everything. This is the greatest trip you could ever imagine.

Why Lamborghini?
Because it was on my wall as a child. They’re just fabulous cars. They’re a bit OTT and that’s what I like about them. They should be in bright colours and loud.
Why not Ferrari?
I’m a Ferrari man as well. For me, it’s just about sports cars from my era. My first sports car was a Lotus Esprit. Pretty much all of my cars are from 1975 to 1990 – that’s the age group for me. I also like wedges; the Countach is a wedge, as is the Esprit and the 308.
What’s been the best thing about the Grande Giro?
Following the Miuras through the hills was nice. The car has been great, but it has struggled with the heat, so I’ve been very cautious with it. When we’re going up hill I keep it in a high gear and I always carry the speed through corners to keep the temperature down.
