Eight hundred and eighty one words. That's how long the advert is for the
Alfa 75 V6
you see here. When the second sentence reads 'The last proper Alfa Romeo, the last model made before FIAT took over and started meddling, taking Alfa over to the dark side with front wheel drive witchery' the word 'enthusiast' springs to mind. Reading the ad in its entirety the word 'hero' seems apt as the amount of time and money spent by PHer Zombie (or Chris as he probably introduces himself) on this Alfa is phenomenal.
Not the prettiest; drive makes up for it
The ad will reveal the full extent of this 75's mini resto. But going from the dates, Chris spent over a year getting the car right after purchasing it in 2012 and has been enjoying five months of the car 'behaving itself'. It's only going as a house deposit needs to be raised.
But Chris's sad loss looks set to be a fantastic gain for someone. The list of remedial work completed is phenomenal with the body, engine and gearbox receiving extensive overhauls. That old adage about judging used cars on condition and not mileage is surely most appropriate here; if ever there was an Alfa with 149,000 miles to take a punt on, this must be it.
And which self-regarding PHer wouldn't want a 75? The styling is probably best described as unique and isn't exactly jaw-dropping in its beauty but this Alfa is all about the driving. Like the SZ of the same time, you might say, and the exact opposite of many recent, very pretty Alfas. The transaxle gearbox contributed to great weight distribution, an LSD was standard and, of course, there was that magnificent 12-valve V6 up front. If seeing this advert directs your browsing session to Youtube for 75 V6 videos, you're not alone...
Your seat for the concert
The PH classifieds has thrown up some, err, alternative choices to ponder against the Alfa, including an automatic Golf 1.6 and a 4WD Skyline saloon. But they're probably indicative this car's uniqueness; nothing else will do if you're heart is set on it. This
325i Sport
is another highly covetable sports saloon from the same era but is more expensive and the advert almost curt by comparison. And it's not an Alfa, is it?
Recently the news emerged that Alfa could revert to a producing more RWD saloons. If it can ally the 75's dynamics to the style imbued in recent models like the Giulietta and 4C, Alfa could really be back on form. We can but hope.
