It's the first day of November, Christmas is looming rather too large and the late October sunshine has disappeared almost completely. No bother, there's plenty from the past seven days on PH here to keep you entertained. We've driven the latest fast Volvo in the UK, further previewed the upcoming US shows and fondly remembered old
Tamiya RC cars
The boys are back in town
Entirely inadvertently PH has managed to cover quite a few fast family cars this week. Most notably of course was the
Volvo V60 Polestar
, a very talented alternative to the usual fast wagon suspects and all the more likeable because of it. Two cars that may still struggle for affection from the general public are the revised
BMW X5 and X6 M
. More capable than ever you sense they still won't warm the hearts of many who come across them.
£90K for one of the BMWs too much? Or indeed £50K for the Volvo? Ford confirmed the prices for its updated Focus ST hatch and estate this week and has added just £200 to the RRP. Still pushing the budget? With a new Subaru Forester STI on the way soon a quick peruse of the classifieds uncovered this original at £12K. Very blue and very quick, just like the Volvo.
See you at the Nordschleife
But of course we're not all about four doors and four seats (although there was another in the
Porsche Panamera Exclusive Series
). With the same 570hp as the Porsche and obviously a whole heap less weight the
Audi R8 Competition
should be a fitting farewell to Audi's first supercar.
That will be a US-only car, where sadly so many of the excellent SEMA concepts we've seen will remain also. This week Dodge revealed its show selection, including a Challenger Trans-Am and the next iteration of Viper ACR. Wonder what that will do around the Nurburgring, now again under new ownership of course...
We all love a raucous exhaust for our sports car, whether that be S2000 or Speciale. But Dan has taken an issue with the din echoing from the back of the Boxster GTS? Is he wrong? Is he right? Tell him here.
Given he became known during the race as 'Safety Car Dan', it's fair to say his debut in the
Birkett Six-Hour relay
was certainly not without drama. Still, makes for a better story!
PH will continue racing into the winter, supporting next weekend's Race Of Remembrance with Mission Motorsport. Matt will be sharing with fellow Academy racer Steve McCulley through the eight hours at Anglesey.
What else have we been chatting about this week? Dale has bought himself another BMW track project and the latest Silverstone Auctions sale has some stunning cars in the catalogue. If you missed the Zenos Sunday Service you can catch up here. We'll have more after tomorrow's Jaguar event also.
As a final round up, don't forget to check out our latest £100K Garage, a track-prepped MG B, another Volvo in POTW and Shed's Mazda RX-8. What was that about four doors and four seats?
