With Rossi on pole and a Suzuki back on the track, there was still some excitement to be found at Valencia despite the championships being tied up.
Can anyone stop him in 2015?
A lightning start saw Iannone grab the lead from Rossi with Marquez in third then Lorenzo and Pedrosa involved in a Spanish fighting match behind. And then rain started to fall...
Another wet race could have helped the struggling Suzuki team, but sadly having blown up two engines already they had none left and therefore no wet bike ready in pit lane! Would this be an issue? From the pace of the riders on track, the circuit's surface seemed dry.
Despite a bit of a battle involving Crutchlow, Dovi and Lorenzo, the mid-race period was a bit quiet until Marc caught and passed Rossi, making it a three-bike dice for the lead. Could Iannone hold out? Only for a few corners...but now Dani was joining in the fun. And then the rain started again.
With ten laps to go, Lorenzo took the plunge first, swapping bikes before anyone else even considered it. A master stroke of tactical planning or a mistake? Only time would tell and now Rossi was catching up on Marquez. Was Marc scared of the conditions?
In the end it turned out a disaster for Lorenzo as he pulled in with five laps to go, surrendering second spot in the championship to Rossi. Another win for Marc, second to Rossi and Pedrosa in third. It's been a cracking year in MotoGP as despite Marc's dominance we have seen Rossi regain form and even Bradders on the podium.
A top 10 finish for Scott Redding in Spain
Moto2 should have seen Rabat take the win from Luthi with Rabat a distant third. Although he didn't. Somehow Rabat screwed it up after trying to pull a wheelie, gifting the win to Luthi! Whoops!
Moto3 was the only championship with something to play for at Valencia - so would Alex Marquez or Jack Miller emerge the winner? With Miller having a points disadvantage, he needed to win the race and Alex finish off the podium. The plan? Simple, clear off and leave everyone else to fight it out and sure enough from the word go Miller took flight.
There is no such thing as an easy Moto3 race and in the final laps Marquez and Miller both climbed and then dropped down the order as seven bikes all fought for the lead. This was going to go down to the last lap... and sure enough, entering the final Moto3 lap of the year, Miller was in the lead with Marquez in third and Kent the only one who could give the Aussie a championship. Sadly for Miller, a wobble by Kent saw his challenge fade and despite Miller taking the win, Alex took the championship. A great end to a cracking season, especially in the Marquez family!
