If you're worried about stone chips smashing up your paintwork on an airfield day then you have three choices. Get the car covered in armourfend when you buy it, spend the morning of the event covering your car in gaffer tape or simply miss out on enjoying your car on track.
Now there's a fourth option - paint on jelly. Track Shield is a new paint-on coating that provides temporary protection for your paintwork. The manufacturers don't claim that it will eliminate damage as their lab tests - where the aim is to puncture the coating - showed a reduction in damage of up to 50%. However they've tried it on track and had good results with it preventing damage from flying stone chips.
The coating is easily removed once you return home from track by peeling in complete sections from the car.
It comes in one litre bottles for £36.00 plus £4.00 P&P. The distributors - Incero - advise at least two coats of Track Shield. One litre will, for example, protect the lower portion of a 993 bonnet, front valence and mirrors for at least two track days.
