Sounds like it all went off in the Spuds thread last night! Glad we're st and out of all that hehe

Fire sale incoming for us this summer with Antony, AWB and Eriksen first on the plank by the sounds of it..
I was out with a Spurs supporting mate and we went to the local official supporters bar. Plenty in there cheering their team on, but no real upset when they lost. A few Marcy faced Arsenal fans there towards the end.
It wasn't funny to be honest.

Post with a reference and pic from the holocaust and a subsequent follow up referencing Palestine.

People have had their collar felt for less.

No place for it at all

There was some other stuff but tbh that was beyond the pale and so out of order it's beyond belief.

I didn’t see any of it. Was just pointing out the night I had there was good fun.

The other stuff you’ve mentioned is disgusting. No place for it anywhere in civilised society.

I saw the rumour on twitter that he might be off, but has 1yr left on his deal?

He is very limited with the ball at his feet, but is a good defensive right back. If we want to progress as a team, then he is defiantly one that will need to go.
People confuse being good at slide tackling with being good at defending.

AWB is a terrible defender. He's often the last out playing the opponent onside, or getting beaten at the back post, or letting his man drift off him. His positioning and concentration is highly suspect.

He's a good slide tackler yes, but all round defender? No thanks. He will end up back at Palace, or at Nottingham Forest or similar as that's about his level.

I had a feeling it might be along them lines with Spurs and their Jewish history. Whoever it was is an utter cretin and not only should be banned but get a call from the police too by the sounds of it. I want to be clear that I wasn't trying to be funny about it and the humour was directed at us being ste!

Have to agree. Many times the replays show AWB has been responsible for leaving someone free or losing a runner. Tackling is great and his last ditch tackles have saved us at times. It would be nice to have a defender actually defend rather than relying on getting himself out the st with a last ditch tackle

What would also be nice is just letting defenders be good at defending, rather than insisting they should be able to run the ball out from the back 10 men en route before laying a perfect cross at the feet of a striker.

Too much insistence on everyone being part of the 1970s Dutch total football / Spanish tippy tappy teams.

I agree that fundamentally they should be a great defender first and foremost. The issue is now you also need your full backs to be comfortable on the ball, be flexible in their positioning, quick and also deliver a good pass or cross.

I’m not convinced that’s “needed”. It’s more the current trend of what managers want. The problem is that City seem to buy every single defender for £50m+ who possibly meets this criteria and then only use them sparingly in their first few seasons.

A solid defence is more important IMO than attack minded players. I know I’m probably out of kilter with the rest of the football world though.

Denis irwin could do all that and was an incredible defender ,and there are plenty of others who could .
Whilst the amount of pressing has increased the amount of mistakes defenders make under no or little pressure is incredible in the modern game . The only credit I give current defenders is it is harder for them because the rule changes have made it much easier for attackers especially near the penalty area .

What are we all thinking for tonight then?

Last time we played Newcastle at home they destroyed us with the following team;

2nd choice GK in goal

2nd choice LB at LB
3rd choice RB at CB
3rd choice LB at CB
2nd choice RB at RB

4th choice LB in CM
2 x reserve CM's in CM

2 x first teamers and a 3rd choice winger up front

We had Onana, Dalot, Maguire, Casemiro, Mount, Garnacho, Antony all starting....

Surely we get a response, we can't just never score a goal or win a game again!

i think newcastle may be struggling to field a striker tonight but we'll wait an see, if we play with an eleven that actually want to play i think we may get something im trying to be optimistic.

Hope we don’t see Martinez on for too long today, wouldn’t like him rushed back. 20 mins would be lovely.

Slow start. We can’t keep hold of the ball. It’s going to be another long night.
