I shouldn't really be speaking with you, as you're too young.

However, if your rig can handle it, AMS2 in VR is absolutely magnificent.

I loved it with my Quest 2. Now I'm using the Quest 3 and the experience is visceral.

Nothing beats blasting around Monza in VR, trying to outbrake an opponent in the first chicane, looking to your right and he's right there!.

It's the best immersive experience that's out there at the moment.
I have to agree - have the quest 2 and before my PC died loved battering round the ring a few times. Dont want to pull this off topic, but certainly thinking about going quest 3 route and upgrading the PC alongside to get VR buttery smooth.

57 and been gaming since the days of my Grandstand 2000 in the 70's LOL. Playstation gamer rather than PC, though I did do some sim racing stuff on PC for a while until I realised I needed so much practice to race and compete it didn't work for me.

It's a really hard question to answer as everyone like's their particular genre which has been honed after trying lots of things, so my only advice is to try lots of things, starting with the types of games you think you will like.

Driving games are great if you are into them....be carefully of upgradeitis, before you know it you'll be needing a full driving rig with force feedback steering and wide screen !
First person shooter : honestly I'd avoid anything that puts you online against other players, the 10 year old players will kill you in the first 5 seconds and you'll get frustrated.
Open world games are amazing, but they might be daunting at first if you really haven't played for decades. Something like Uncharted might be a really good start as it feels a bit like open world but the story line directs you down a certain path. Red Dead Redemption 2 is massive, I started it but got a little bored with it.....might go back and give it another go.

Things I've liked reasonably recently related to open world :
Horizon Zero Dawn and the follow up Horizon Forbidden West
Ghost Of Tsushima
Just Cause Franchise (can get a bit "samey" but it's a bit of a laugh dreaming up ways to blow stuff up) - just finished "4" after I realised I never completed it so went back to the start

If you like puzzle type games, one of the best I've ever played was Portal 2 which can also be played "co-op". I also therefore played it with my son when he was younger.

You have an amazing back catalogue to get through !!

You might like 'Pacific Drive' then - similar kind of concept but not VR and centred around exploring the environment in a car.

Mid 50s here and been gaming on and off since I was about 11.

Currently playing Destiny 2 on PS, the only game I have been playing for the last couple of years. Pretty easy to just fire up and hop into and shoot some stuff.

I lost a lot of days to that, probably my favourite every death match back in the day. Awesome game.

Another recommend for FTL - about 400 hundred hrs on that one and managed (at last!) to get all the ships and layouts.
Also another recommend for Valheim v pretty and dream like.
Did have a little dabble with WoW
Not seen anyone mention Rimworld (not a toilet product) have over 600 hrs on that.
Not seen any mention of 7 Days to Die but that was good even if there was no 'end' to it.
Satisfactory was fun.
Green Hell was OK
Icarus is currently the pancake display game of choice

Recently been sucked into VR:
Skyrim - add in a few mods but that was an epic journey in VR
Fallout 4 also awesome.
Been spending some time recently in DCS in Hueys, Paradise Lost campaign is the reason you get the Huey - VietGuam baby!
Am just moving on the Gazelle now and it is incredible how different it feels to the UH1.
Also the most epic VR experience - Half Life Alyx - so well made
and for prettiness (also kid friendly if that is important) Moss and Moss Book 2, like living in a fairy tale.

I'm over 50 and enjoy a few hours on the PS4 every now and again.

Loved the Uncharted series (to the extent I upgraded from a PS3 to PS4 just to play the last iteration) and then did Tomb Raider.

Now playing Rise of the Tomb Raider and being frustratingly killed by wolves on a regular basis (i can't seem to fine-tune the aim of my gun/bow very well). One thing that is good on RotTR is that it gives you a reminder of what your current mission is on the map screen - invaluable for the occasional gamer, as some games i go back to after a few months and have no idea what i am supposed to be doing (GTA4, I'm looking at you...)

Does DCS work with VR? I have Starwars Squadrons which feels impressive in VR, and love the idea of a Hueuy in VR, especially as I'm currently rereading Chickenhawk biggrin. I'm guessing I'd need to upgrade form from GTX1080 and first gen Rift though.

For VR in general, Superhot VR is awesome.

I’m 43 but started gaming on the Spectrum 48k which was my dad’s when I was very young.

Surprised no one has mentioned the Assassins Creed series of games, even the early one featured stunning open worlds to play in. Black flag was a low point in my opinion and I’d avoid that but all the rest are brilliant games

55 here and I struggle to find games the properly engage me, I lose interest at the 1st hint of repetition, however, after a long stint playing Rust, I'm now totally absorbed in DayZ.

55, been gaming for years - a long stint hardcore raiding in BC/WoLTK/Cataclysm days of WoW. Went cold-turkey and mainly play narrative lead games on my Ps5 - HZD, HFW, GOW etc. Been very into Beat Saber over the last few months 2 hours+ per day.

Looking forward to Rise of the Ronin and Stellar Blade, going to run Synth Riders as an aside to the Beat Saber addiction.

Isn't DayZ repetative. i.e. you spawn on a beach with no gear and have to search for ages to get weapons and gear, then when you get killed you respawn on the beach and have to start from nothing again and again and again.

56 here, been gaming since the late 70s.

Gave up with the PC arms race years ago and went console.

Played a lot of race games and Battlefield/COD , but the last maybe 8 years or so have been almost exclusively GTA Online in free mode. I love the open world, flying around in helis and Cessnas, no ridiculous stuff like Oppressors, my only concession is a missile jammer. I almost exclusively like playing simply to troll griefers, I’m a master at C4 out the window, sniping jets etc. Great fun.

53 and currently playing The last of us 2 for the 4th time. I now have the remastered version for PS5 as it was only £10.00 to upgrade, I can’t see any real difference though.

This time I am playing it on hard level and finding the lack of ammunition quite a challenge.

Also a big fan of days gone.

I have been gaming on and off since I was about 10 I have had the following machines

ZX81 with 16k ram pack
Commodore 64
Commodore Amiga 500
Commodore Amiga 1200
PS1
Dream Cast
PS2
PS3
And now PS 5

This thread is making me want to get back into some of the PC games of my youth!

I'm talking Command and Conquer, Red Alert, Fallout 2, Age of Empires.....that sort of thing.

Anyone got any clue what sort of laptop I'd need to buy to run these old relics? I'm assuming as they're so old I could find something dirt cheap on ebay? Or is life just not that easy?

51 and been gaming since Chuckie Egg, Jet Set Willy, SabrWulf and Elite on a BBC micro. Then a few console years of Sega master system, mega drive, Saturn and then original playstation before moving to online gaming on a PC where I have remained ever since. I struggle with the derivative nature of most modern games having lived and played through their evolution and I hate the microtransaction and chest trend that has ruined many a good game. I'm looking at you EA.

I still dip into WOW occasionally but mostly for nostalgic reasons and of all the current FPS only Fortnite has held my attention in recent years due to its ever changing meta and competitive online play.

I haven't had time to really get stuck into games like RDR but am looking forward to it when I have a bit more time in the near future.
