Is that the one with the telescope in the back?Typical 10 hour flights with relatively complex curved flight plan, increasing altitude as they use up fuel (higher is better) and enough fuel left to divert to Auckland should they need to.
There was a high flying helicopter overhead yesterday which is unusual in Essex, It's usually a police helicopter 100ft over the house shining a light in the garden, turns out it was this:

ETA - just saw the Callsign and that tied up too - after he landed he was practising a reversing manoeuvre.

ETA correct tail number prefix, I had used a C17 one.

Dark green (military I presume) four engined prop plane going back and forth over the Porthcothan/Constantine Bay area on Monday afternoon - what would it likely have been?
Was quite interesting watching it (and later the Red Arrows) from my kayak off the coast
