Good evening everyone,

I’ve got a bit of a weird question for you. I have a citron berlingo van and tonight all of a sudden the parking sensors for the van have stopped working. Usually when you put the vehicle into reverse the dashboard pops up with a display (not camera) and beeping sounds. But there is literally nothing happening now, when I engage reverse, it, just stays on the radio or whatever is on the screen.

Has anyone else ever come across this? It’s almost like the button has been switched off that I’ve checked and it’s not and I did turn it on and off to be sure.

I’m thinking maybe software glitch or fuse, but then I thought this should throw up an error message. Any ideas on where to start? I’m guessing take the black lead off the battery for an hour to let the ECU reset?

Thanks very much.

Does the reversing light come on? If not, suspect the switch on the gearbox is at fault

Is there a fuse for the reverse function?
If not, then what you'll need is a wiring diagram and a multimeter.

brythered,

I had similar in my C5. Reversing sensors system just refused to work. No rear view camera but anyway.
I learnt here (!) that the sensors make a noise! They click. I'm old and high tone deaf, but I have a stethoscope, and sure enough, one sensor didn't click. This test is simple, but reverse and the reversing system will not engage anyway unless the engine is running, so I 'engaged' an assistant to sit in the car with strict instructions not to take their foot off the clutch.

Replacement of the faulty sensor was easy - NOT! Easy to do, with a new sensor I bought from eBay for about £20, it just clicks into place in the bumper and has a loom connector that only fits one way. But it still won't work, so I took it to an independent garage I trust. They explained that Citroen electrical parts are 'tagged' so that they work on the CAN-BUS computerised wiring system. The one I got from eBay was exactly the right part, but not tagged. So they fitted a Citroen part, at £100!

I expect that a Berlingo will work in a similar way.

Yes, see my post above. But you need a branded Citroen sensor unit.
