Lovely, if I had the money, would definitely be a customer.

Sorry my brain cannot compute that having 4 less cylinders is an upgrade! I agree with the earlier poster: buy a 850 CSi instead.

This is the correct answer for me too. You still get a manual gearbox, but it is mated to a V12 rather than a V8 though. Bigger is better in my eyes.

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

Also, I'm in agreement that those wheels ruin what is undoubtedly one of BMW's finest ever designs. I only dare whisper it, but at first glance they give it a whiff of a Barried Ford Probe to my trained eye.

Everything except the wheels. Too big.
Indeed. The wheels are always so off on these megabucks restomods, it's rather frustrating.

I’ll take mine with an S85 V10, a manual gearbox and an appropriately obnoxious exhaust. I’d be quite happy to use a V8 E31 as the donor too, although I think fewer were made than were the V12. Please paint it Estoril Blue, with M parallel wheels and no silly ///M badges.

Change the wheels, then yes. Even being termed 'restomod', they've not gone too silly on the price. Fair play!
The deep dish 5 spoke allows on the old E34/E38 models would have been perfect.
These ones?

Nice donated wheels there. Are they on an E39 M5 that also now has the 5.0 V12 pinched from the same 850i... ?

Good to see one out and about.

(Anorak on) That back wheel is on the wrong side redcard

Might have been preferable to supercharge the original V12 engine and save the M5 donor car?

I have an E39 M5 in the garage, and the engine and gearbox are perfect, but rust has got to the body and chassis, the suspension and brakes need a major overhaul.

Would take some military grade man maths to justify using as donor for making one of these....
The E31 conversion is in my future, if you want to sell the E39 as a donor, then shoot me a message

It definitely needed that engine, but those wheels are all kinds of wrong.

Very very cool, and not crazy money either for this sort of thing. Those wheels spoil it though. It should have original Style 65 E39 M5 wheels on it. An iconic instantaneously recognisable wheel, and a strong nod as to what’s lurking under the bonnet.

Very nice indeed.

As stated by others. Not a huge fan of the alloys. maybe a set of E34 M5 wheels would look nice.

Ah, I see. Simplistically elegant as they are, there were too many twin-leg 5-spokes in Max Power when I was a kid for me to be in love with them.

I also didn't know that those that I posted are known as throwing stars. They are now even cooler to me! cool

A decent combination of old school charm and modern grunt.
As has been previously said, wheels are the only let down.

The wheels are def too big. And I would keep the V12, it's what makes this car... just make it bigger for more power. M70/73 can be enlarged to 6 litres of displacement.
I'm with you I think too. You can get loads of cars with V8 engines, but not so many with V12's though. So I'd prefer the original engine left in, but with some tweaks/upgrades to it as you say.
I agree with you both... Just mod the V12....

The car looks superb and everything looks really well done.

Which makes the wheel choice even more baffling. Easily resolved though.

Same as everyone else, perfect except for the wheels.

Nice to see some of these restomods coming in at a reasonable price!
