Hi,

Looking for some recommendations for a new battery.

2013 BMW R1200RT.

Exide, Motorbatt and Banner seem to come up on searches.

I’ve got an exide in a car which has taken a beating on short journeys and still performing well at 6 yrs plus.

I tend to go for Yuasa.
For my bike, the Yuasa has more cranking amps than other makes in the same size.
Yuasa's do tend to need more trickle charging in the Winter.

I have a cheap Leoch in a small bike, that has survived 5 years of abuse and neglect.

IMHO, since the rules about selling acid changed, you don't get dry charged batteries, so you want to avoid one which has been fillled and left o nthe shlef.
So I would go to a high turnover seller like Tayna on ebay or directly.
I think Yuasa UK used to sell to the public?

It's been a while since I bought a bike battery, it might be time to do some research and consider Lithium. I'm a bit sceptical about compatibility with the charging circuits on bikes though.

Definitely going to go gel / AGM over wet.

170 CCA is the OEM spec but I have seen 220 -310 on other batteries which is always useful.

A noco li ion is rated at 500 cca !

Gel are no different to wet in terms of reliability. It's the same stuff (acid) just held in gel form. Although they are less prone to leaks, obviously. I prefer gel as I like to fall off my bike a lot so I am confident the acid won't leak out!

Also, you will really need a smart charger if you are going for a gel or AGM battery. They like to be charged low and slow, which regular chargers don't do.

+1 on that.
I recently bought a Tayna own brand battery for my car - highly rated apparently & decent build quality.
Excellent next day delivery & packaging was robust.

Thanks for the advice.

Bought an Exide (OEM) AGM battery with 250 CCA so will see how that goes.
