Or to spin it a different way, democracy has shown that Londoners are happy with ULEZ?

Would be undemocratic surely?

If he wins then surely it's an endorsement of ULEZ and should now be accepted? The majority have (almost) spoken and the anti-ulez candidate has failed (at time of writing obvs)

From the current numbers it seems the majority haven't even voted.

That’s the way it works I’m afraid. If the majority of people were genuinely anti-ULEZ then they’ve just had the best chance of getting rid of it and it looks like they haven’t bothered. Seems they’ve more important things to worry about.

And let’s not forget that a majority of the voting age population didn’t vote for Brexit and look how that turned out. It’s the way democracy works.

No dog in this race as I live across the street from the nearest London borough and can’t vote. Just commentary.

No problem, I’m not sold on ULEZ and the way it was implemented or its future use but for the Major I’m stuck with whatever other decide.

I would also disagree that re election somehow means all of his policies are endorsed.

I'm not fan of ulez (Boris was though given it was his idea). I had to change a car as a direct result spending money I'd much rather not have

But SK has just won a third term. He's a blinding politician. The Tory party put up pathetic losers for London mayor who get beaten every time.

Congratulations to Sadiq Khan.

Of course not. A reduced majority will almost certainly reflect a reaction to ULEZ. But its not hated by all (or even most?) Londoners, and as a basis for voting, it's less important than a raft of other issues, I'd guess.

It’s certainly high priority for those financially burdened by it but I’d think crime is top of most people’s list of things to tackle.

That’s not for the ULEZ thread though I guess

I’m really going to laugh at all those that voted for khan or couldn’t be arsed to vote when he starts his pay per mile charging. My only worry is that all the other pointless mayors around the country don’t get the same idea

London ULEZ won’t bother me personally. I can’t stand London and have no reason to go there. But I can appreciate why some would choose to visit / work/ live there.

The UK has one of the most centralised governmental systems in the democratic world, this dislocation of power and spending control from the information on the ground is a significant net drag on the UK both economically and culturally.

More mayors is a step in the right direction, eventually we should move to a point where a great deal of funding is sourced locally and the central government only really gets involved to transfer funds between regions for fairness purposes (this happens in every county already, including ours).

The leveling up agenda where there was a small amount of funding put into pots which local areas competed for and decisions were made centrally is about as far away devolution and leveling up as it is possible to get.

I think you may not understand the authority Mayors can bring to an area in the way local councils cannot.

I'm largely Apolitical but I'm very pleased Andy Burnham has retained Manchester but I hope Andy Street retains the West Midlands. He is a great and talented guy. It would be a big loss to loose his talent.

I guess todays result isn’t great for those realising they have aligned themselves with some vandals that are far more gobby than they are numerous.

Yes - and by cutting down traffic lights are simply costing taxpayers money.

This just goes to show the lack of intelligence.
