Judge Merchan has virtually called trump a liar, talking directly to him at the start of todays court time after he said he's gagged and isn't allowed to testify

"There may be a misunderstanding how it impacts trump's right to testify. I want to say that Mr. trump, you have an absolute right to testify. The order restricting extrajudicial statements does not restrict you from testifying in any way. As the name of the order indicates, it only applies to extrajudicial statements."

He wants to be jailed.

trump just violated his gag order again by posting a video on Truth Social this morning of Andrew Giuliani attacking the judge’s daughter on Steve Bannon’s show where he was attacking the judge’s daughter.

He;s also ranted about the judge again

"This Corrupt and HIGHLY Conflicted New York Judge, Juan Merchan, is doing everything in his power to make this trial as salacious as possible, even though these things have NOTHING to do with this FAKE case. He gives us nothing, gives the everything to the Crooked D.A., Alvin Bragg. ELECTION INTERFERENCE - BIDEN WITCH HUNT TRIAL!!!"

Do you think knows he can't win so is looking for something/someone to blame? "Those nasty radical left Democrats put me in jail" etc?

He thinks it'll make him a hero to the base, allow him to grift. It has to be about raising money because he's skint. Maybe he thinks he'll just get a night in jail as a lesson and can grift from that, but he's doing his best.

Or he's just out of control - which might well be more likely. He's really not used to having people tell him what to do so is reacting?

trump knew he lied yesterday about the gag order stopping him testifying, admitted it to reporters

trump: No. It won’t stop me from testifying. The gag order is not for testifying. It stops me from talking about people and responding when they say things about me..

Can't win what?

He could win the case and there is clearly a path (a difficult one IMO) for him to win the election.

Politico have the full story now -
Federal prosecutors have charged a former government employee with falsely accusing seven colleagues — many of whom held security clearances and at least some of whom worked in the intelligence community — of participating in the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol.

Personally I think (and hope) he can't win any of the cases (unless ruled by a corrupted SCOTUS), or the election. Apparently elections are won/lost on the swing-states, and he's busy pissing those off IMO.

I think he's also assuming (likely correctly) that for him being "jailed" would likely not actually be in a jail as we know it but some form of comfy house arrest for a night or two, so all that grift for a night or two sequestered? Probably worth it.

I'm also not exactly convinced that, at points, his whole "jail me I dare you" schtick isn't at least a tiny bit of a double bluff - convincing people that it would be playing into his hands so they don't do it.

Errr. A German called Bolich is probably a Slav by ancestry, the name would likely originally have been Boli? and Germanised to Bolich because German doesn't have that diacritic. Many Slav surnames, in the region of Southern Slav languages like Serbo-Croat, end in -i? rather than I or Y sounds (presume you're referring to -skii type surnames more prevalent in Eastern Slavic than Southern). An -i? ending would be very rare. Female surnames only end with an -a in some Slavic languages, by no means all of them. I suspect the name Boli? is from Serbo-Croat, a South Slavic language, in which surnames don't change for females. Not that this would have any bearing on an American female's surname in any case.

Here's a famous Boli?:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elvir_Boli%C4%87

(Credentials: a degree in Russian with a specialisation in Comparative Slavonic Philology, and also a decent Serbo-Croat speaker.)

It was just my punt at a possible explanation. Typically when I see a name like Bolick my thoughts tend to err towards possible Germanic / Slav.

You're quite right to say that not all Slav names end ovi / ova or ski (skj) / ska although it is reasonably common. But I did say that it wasn't a hard rule for all surnames.

(Credentials: Married to a Slav with a family name which ends in Y and in her case ends with an A. And here's an odd one for you. The name originated in Croatia before they headed north.)

I doubt he'd go to a federal PMITA prison but I also doubt he's going to go to the kind of holiday home Martha Stewart went to. He'll need to be housed in a secure facility which will probably be a bit austere.

Whilst it's still going to be 5 star compared to general population it'll piss trump off to no end just having his access to the internet cut off.

Frankly it needs to happen but as byker said the judge is limited by the law.

I've never come across a surname being feminised in Serbo-Croat (like I said I'm a decent speaker - and I've been married to someone from ex-YU for 26 years). This is an interesting thread, particularly the posts dated Aug 11/12 2012: https://forum.wordreference.com/threads/all-slavic...

I'd bet that your Slav wife's surname has been feminised precisely because her family moved north, because some Slavic languages north of former Yugoslavia do decline female surnames and it would have fitted a local language better. If they'd remained in Croatia they wouldn't feminise it.

Sorry for the thread drift! Still rooting for Trump to go down in style.

He doesn't want to be jailed. He's just showing how weak and powerless the Court is in holding him to account. He's basically telling the Judge to GFH.

I think its just one massive grift for him. Imagine the merchandise or the emails that will get sent out and then the messaging to 'empower' his loyal supporters (or is that cultists). And dont forget that he will play the pity card too. He's tried that one many times so far, so fully expect him to do it again.

Truth Social’s accounting firm has just been shut down and fined $14M by the SEC for “massive fraud”.
The SEC accused BF Borgers of “deliberate and systemic failures,” including “fabricating” audit documentation and falsely representing to clients its work would comply with accounting standards.

The agency described this as “massive” fraud taking place between January 2021 and June 2023 that impacted more than 1,500 SEC filings and more than 500 public companies.

He doesn't wants trumps posts entered or wants to make it difficult but judge disagrees, so we get Georgia Longstreet, paralegal at the DA's office testifying about trumps rage tweets and lies all coming back to haunt him.
