I paid just over £15k for my 5 series just over 3 years ago and Motorway valued it at £12k a few weeks ago so basically £1k a year depreciation and I still have an asset to sell when I wish too.
Beats leasing any day of the week.
That's really good going!Beats leasing any day of the week.
Would you say that's been indicative of your depreciation on other cars in the past?
I've seen a historic rule of thumb quoted that a car will lose 50% of it's value every three years. From personal experience of buying sheds, to 12 months old cars (and everything in between) I've found that 10% a year is the minimum depreciation I can expect - and that's with selling privately.

Prices then increased significantly as supply of new cars fell and I could have sold it for more than I paid, so I have circumstances to thank for the low depreciation since then.
I was also lucky enough to have company cars when they were tax efficient for many years, but I did have a few weekend toys that lost a bit, and in hindsight I wished I had driven them more than I did to get better value for money.
I have also gone the shed route with several cars, buying them for under £2k and running them until they could run no more with minimal servicing until they were only fit for scrapping. That has always been very cost effective.
