Allroad owners

I had one of the C5 TDi Allroads, which was easily the least reliable Audi I've ever owned. That said, I still did about 100,000 mikes in it, and it got me places that would have been impossible in most other vehicles. It even impressed Land Rover types and that was just with normal tyres. Replaced that with a C-whatever the one with the BiTurbo is, which was very fast indeed but also (IMO) quite unpleasant to drive and despite its obvious ability I was glad to replace it with a fully specced A4 avant.
So you are saying the C6 generation is clearly the best balance of modernity, reliability and comfort? and that I needn't feel bad that I just can't afford a newer one... right?Another one with some love for the C7 Allroad, mine is a 64 BiTDi , I've owned it for 5 yrs, done 55k miles and love it. It has had a wee wobble this month, needing an O2 sensor and a front height sensor.
Had a water pump under warranty which is common on the V6 TDis I believe.
Tip for anyone who looks after their own, check the link rods on the height sensors and in particular the lower ball and socket, mine were all seized or seizing and would have led to broken sensors... hopefully saved a bit by freeing off.
MIne had a few options, sports seats, pano roof, full paint, 19"s ( now my winters) , factory towbar, keyless entry...added up to £11k when new ! Ironically it doesn't have the extended interior lighting that my sons old C6 A6 has arrived with this week...
On the wheel front, the offset is shared with the A8, and wheels for these come up at more reasonable price than A6 stuff, or they did when i was looking for 20's.
I cannot see what the replacement option is, newer one ( now discontinued I believe??) , Merc E400 Alltrack?? , a S6 TDI with air option..??
If the reliability settles back down, I'll keep mine for a while I reckon. I do have a wee look for a late C7 allroad with comfort seats and minimal miles....but chances are slim!
Good thread.

Morning all!
After a good review by the mechanic who serviced my Allroad a week after I bought it, I have since discovered that on the highest suspension setting (well, actually the second highest) I can hear creaking from the rear, both sides. I don't have any warning messages or any other noises. I will get this checked out but it's not top of the list yet as it's still a London car so the need for raising the height is not great!
Another thing I noticed early on when cleaning the seats and steering wheel one night after collecting the car - the interior lights are classic bulbs - it really dates the interior I think! It's a head scratcher as the car has the ambient lighting (inc exterior door handle lights) so it's a bit of a mix. My 2010 A1 even had LED interior lights. Anyway, small things!
The heated steering wheel's nice.

To echo the above, both of my AllRoads have the squeak too.
I asked the dealer / servicing - but the said all fine.
Mines in for pads and discs all round today. Wallet is shaking.
eta- not too bad. Front pads, back pads and discs - £364

mine also does the squeak at full height, possibly just the suspension components (droplink, ARB bushes etc) not used to being pushed to those extremes?
Maybe if set to high and used over lumpy terrain more often the squeak would settle down.
Or the system is about to break expensively

Count yourself lucky - my Grand Cherokee bangs and crashes alarmingly on top setting when driving over bumps. Research and dealer's response is "they all do that sir" (the fully extended airbag seems to force the wheel down hard after compressing over a bump, hence the bang when it levels out). Maybe if set to high and used over lumpy terrain more often the squeak would settle down.

Another reason I'm looking for a nice used C7 Allroad. Squeaks sound like pure luxury!
My car is back from being serviced. The dealer couldn't find anything which caused the squeak, and it didn't squeak in their hands, so I guess it's up to me to grease everything I can find.
I did take out a service plan though, which covered today's service and the next one. £449 which seems OK for two services at a main dealer. Audi are discounting it 25% currently, I believe, so worth checking out.

Not sure if A4 Allroad counts
Been an A4 Avant owner for over 20 years(that’s scary) apart from a brief spell with anSQ5(god, that was quick) which I found a bit of a reverse tardis
Swapped for this 12 months ago 3.0tdi with lovely spec - would have liked pan roof but beggars can’t be choosers.
Booked in next week for service and brake fluid.
Done 12000 miles and had to fill with adblue twice - is that normal?

I stuck in 10l every 6000 miles in my last A6 Allroad - not sure how big your Adblue tank is on the A4 but the consumption sounds about right if you're putting in 10l each time.Having now bothered to find out that the A6 holds 17l of Adblue, I brimmed it a couple of weeks ago. Wonder if I'll get 9-10k miles before the warning comes on?
I don't have a panoramic roof on mine either, by choice - avoids any risk of leaks. I've seen a lot of stories about A6 panoramic roof leaks which aren't solved just by clearing the drain tubes. While I avoided the issue I do wonder how common a problem it is.

Yep, all Allroads welcome!I like those wheels on the first A4 Allroad. I looked at them for a bit, then found out I could get into a current shape (albeit 2.0) for £20K. Anyway I then lowered my budget by £5K and went back to looking at A6 Allroads for familiarity and to be able to keep the rubber mats from my Avant sold to Cazoo!
mine is now wearing winter tyres, so should be mostly unstoppable^ now
The long drive from Yorkshire to Dorset for the Christmas period should be rather nicer to do in this than the old 206 that we did it in last year
^y'know, within reason for what is still mostly a conventional estate car

For those of you suffering from the infamous squeak from the rear when the suspension is raised take a look at the link below….. this was how I fixed mine… takes 10 mins per side

thanks for the link, sounds like a very DIY-able job.https://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php...
Is the C6 suspension setup more or less the same as the C7?
well it had to happen at some point, but after sitting unused for a couple of days mine was looking distinctly low on the nearside rear. A short drive gave no problems and the suspension went from lowest to highest settings and back OK (albeit slowly to get through the highest 2 settings), but again looks to have dropped maybe 30 mm overnight.
I know this is a fairly common problem with these earlier models, but aftermarket airbags are fairly affordable and the process to change it doesn't look too onerous.
Has anyone had to DIY a rear air spring swap before?
