Hello all, I’ve moved to the East Midlands with work and I’m having real trouble finding some good roads for spirited driving! Does anyone have any suggestions at all? Closer to Loughborough the better but quite happy to travel a little bit.

Theres the Midlands 'Tick' which is mostly the B6047 between Bingham and Market Harborough, passing through Melton Mowbray on the way. I cant think of any others. If your into track days then Donnington and Mallory park are both good days out.

^If you keep heading east from there, then a lot of empty roads in Lincolnshire, although featureless. Sheffield is not too far from East midlands, you can visit the peak district in a day, do snakes pass (check its open before you leave), the woodhead pass route between glossop and holmfirth is a lot of fun too and scenic.

Close to Loughborough suggests the M1....

Not many suitable roads for anything above NSL, too narrow, busy and tree-lined.

There is a fast open road from Zouch towards Wymeswold A6066. Turn east onto Six Hill Lane towards Eastwell. Lots of good roads around Belvoir Castle too. Lots more if you head up towards Lincoln or east of Colsterworth e.g. A151 to Bourne. Rutland has some good tarmac too.

Can actually find some decent loops that will take you around and into some of south Derbyshire too, think calke, ticknall, Melbourne ways etc.
Have an explore journey.

I used to drive from Nottingham to Market Harborough every day for a couple of years

The part of this route from the "triangle junction" just south of Twyford down to the A6 roundabout (and indeed the bit between the "triangle junction" and Queniborough - perhaps even more so this bit) is one of the most dangerous roads I've ever seen - I lost count of the amount of crashed cars I saw over the time I was doing that drive!

Great fun if you are careful and respect the road

I did the Rutland TT last week and to be honest the only good part was the B6047. Rest of it was it wasn't really roads you could give the beans on comfortably, this was with zero traffic too.

Edit: B664 is good also but I ride that all the time
