Thanks, didn't realise the 7s were tender engines and 8s tanks.
I think when I used to see the Golden Arrow at Waterloo it was a Merchant Navy at the front.
The Golden Arrow went from Victoria. Must have been another train. :-)
No, definitely the Golden Arrow, saw it often, it had a dedicated platform, must have been Victoria. smile
We used to buzz around all the London Termini. Dad worked for London Underground so we got very cheap tube travel meaning we could spend a day on the tube going from station to station to see what was going on. If we got bore we'd try to get into one of the sheds; Nine Elms, Stratford, Old Oak Common etc.

I used to do that on a 5/-Twin Rover: Willesden, Old Oak, Southall, Feltham, Nine Elms (which I always managed to get into, despite its 'difficult' reputation). Happy days...

Yes, me as well. Been working towards this move for a while so it is great to see it happen.

I'm rather a BR Standard fan. The SR had quite a few. 73/75/76/80/82 and 84XXX. Good engines and good to work on.
And, finally, 77014 which was the very last active BR steam locomotive on the Southern.

Yes, true, though that was a foreigner parachuted in late on. The 77s were native to the Southern. Ironic that 77014 was the last active.

I’ve been going through my old photos.
I ‘think’ this is Kirkcaldy, circa 1986. Fitters strike, Haymarket, saw everything loco hauled.

VSOE Beaulieu Road, ‘83/84 ish.
