Just to add another fuel type into the mix, we bought a Traeger Ironwood 650 pellet grill in Lockdown.

You need to change the way you cook slightly (reverse sear) but it’ll open up a world where you can turn bbq’ing into a whole day job (or longer!) depending on what you want to cook.

It’s internet connected too just to add even more nerdiness biggrin

I got a gas bbq that you can use charcoal on as well, so easy for a mid week dinner, but can also get some good flavour, when I can’t be bothered to fire up the kettle bbq.

I have something similar from Char-Broil. Great to be able to light the coal evenly and quickly using gas.

And I'm really really hankering after an electric ninja woodfire at the moment...
I got the pro xl woodfire last weekend and the first use was two smoked roast chickens which fit on in one go. Ridiculously easy, tasted great, easy cleanup. It really is as good as the reviews, and it still chucks out smoke so you feel slightly bbq manly.

I bought it as needed a new gas bbq as old one rusted itself to bits, so plan to see how it goes as an occasional use sole outdoor cooking machine.

OK, Im going to throw in a curveball that none of you are considering - aesthetics!!!

We have a Hofats Triple 120 and its a stunningly beautiful firepit, which has various optional grill arms for cooking food. We have a grid 55 and its huge enough for even a large BBQ party, but 2nd and 3rd grill arms or Tables can be fitted if needed too! After the food is cooked, the grill arms can be removed and everyone can gather round and enjoy the firepit. Had it now for 4 years and it looks as good as new. The Triple is Corten Steel so it rusts a protective layer in about 2-3 weeks, but it never rusts away and the rust doesnt come off to the touch and isn't affected by burning, it just looks beautiful even in winter against the snow!

Hofats do a whole range of other beautful firepits with grills too, so if the Triple isn't your thing there are many more to choose from, all beautifully constructed with premium materials and many of which have dual uses. Such as these:

The "Fire Kitchen" is their ultimate chef BBQ setup with a more conventional layout.

Broil King.

Heard bad things about the quality on newer Webers which turned me away from them.

Something with cast iron grates is my advice. The chromed ones never last.

Weber kettle, Weber starter thing-a-me-jig and GOOD quality coals. If not time for that, may as well just cook inside.

I have one of these…

https://www.weber.com/GB/en/gas-barbecues/genesis/...

Internet enabled, temp probe (ooo errr), and gas… makes barbecue enjoyable again and gives me time to play with my Barbies or whatever else gas users do rofl

Seriously though, good for a quick steak at lunch or full on family evening meal - we rarely put the oven on… mainly as the air fryer sits nicely on one of the sides too wink

That does look impressive.

Shame they've all chosen to sit in the greenhouse though! smile

Does the Weber ever get properly hot? I have a genesis and it’s great for some stuff such as rotisserie but not great for searing steaks etc…Just wonder if mine is faulty.

We bought the six burner classic during the pandemic. We have those lave rocks in it … never tried charcoal on it even though that was my argument for getting it.
Been outside since it arrived … every spring it looks knackered and I think it’s done… but with a bit of soap and water it comes up quite good. The only thing I struggle with is that drain channel thing.
Anyway, dusted it off again this weekend… connected the bottle and one click and it was burning away. Happy with that.

It does supplement my Oklahoma Joe smoker …. Which is very tired. Might swap that next spring for a pit boss pellet smoker…. We shall see

Anyway, Grillstream…. Very good!!!

Cooked on it tonight, only doing chicken and sausages so it was around 210 degrees on medium heat. Can be up to 260+, and steak works great with app and probe.

I have a CADAC Carri Chef 2 braai (well 2 in fact as we keep one in our motorhome too). Being gas it's a grill rather than BBQ of course but is a great option. Easy to pack away when not in use and portable if you go out and about.
