So sad and sorry to read Tigerlilly has left you garythesign. I was dusting in in the lounge last night (how rock & roll!) and moving the picture of our last cat made me stop think about him. Initial sadness gives way to a smile thinking his antics.

Anyway, to avoid getting too sad, here's our Ed.

Me : Ed, you're not meant to be on the kitchen worktops
Ed : And? You don't tell a lion what he can / can't do

Thanks for all the comments.

Tigerlilly was good at getting the dogs to move but was happy to share spaces with Harvey.

Photo from around four years ago.

Can you imagine standing at the front door trying to get the cat in, shouting: Fanny, Fanny... ? hehe

You can never rescue too many cats.

Moved house today but my worst nightmare happened - she got out the door and would not come back in. I rang Cats Protection who were able to provide a baited trap, but she wouldn't go in for the first few hours. New owners are leaving for the weekend but I was able to leave it in their garden. Now it's an anxious night hoping she gets hungry enough to go in, otherwise I might never get her back

We once had a neighbour, Janet, the type of person the phrase ‘salt of the earth’ was invented for. A lovely lady and totally unworldly. Between our houses was a rented property with some four or five lads sharing. They had a dog. When they moved out, nobody wanted the animal, and it ended up being adopted by Janet.

They told her its name was Spliff.

We debated whether or not to have a word with her about this, but we were eventually forced to after the dog got out one day and we found Janet walking up and down the road shouting Spliff! Spliff! At the top of her voice.

We did.

Our fifth cat (which was unwanted by it's owner after about 18 months of ownership) was a complete bully to our other four.

We hoped that when he found the outside, he'd prefer it and spend a lot of time out there (like three of the others). But he stayed inside, blocking the cat flaps or stairs, and chasing them.

We had to re-home him; luckily a colleague of mine wanted a cat, and he's been very happy in his new home, and the usual pandemonium has returned at ours.

My colleague's daughter has also come out of her shell since they got him, so that was an unexpected bonus.

I thought it would be a few years before I posted one of these messages.

We are on holiday and had a call this morning to say our beloved Tigerlilly died in her sleep last night.

She was only about nine and seemed in fine health.

We are devastated at her loss and the fact that we were not there.

A photo taken last week with her friend Sorcha

Gary I missed this. I am so sad for you, that is terrible news frown

Thanks PiaP.

We moved to Ireland seven years ago and four cats have died on us. That’s not counting the kittens that we foster that didnt make it.

Tigerlily was an ex feral cat who had a tough first few years. When we brought her home from the cattery she hid behind the stove for the first few days, but eventually decided we were her family. She never extended her claws and liked nothing better that a tummy rub.

I think it will hit us hardest when we return from our holiday.

You might have heard about services offering a pet prescription without vet verification, and many of them are legitimate and reliable. Do thorough research to find the best options that ensure your pet's safety and well-being.

Panic over, I managed to get her back but what a saga it was. Had left the trap with the neighbours, who were not very happy with me as she'd been sitting outside yowling all night. I managed to call her over, get her next to the trap but just couldn't get her to go in, whilst try to explain to the increasingly annoyed neighbour that it's not a case of just picking her up and throwing her in. In fact she has her front paws in there, I tried to push her in, she spun round and ran away. Centimetres away from success again.

Other neighbours have dogs so couldn't ask them, and the buyer of my house has now gone away to Wednesday evening. With no way to access the garden except through the house, things were not looking good. However, I did still have a door key I'd forgotten to hand over, and the owner very graciously gave me permission to enter. So I tempted her back into the house, sat blocking the cat flap whilst the Cat's Protection lady came in and - finally - got her into a carrier. Not ashamed to admit I got rather emotional when that lid was slammed shut.

Oh, and here she is 10 minutes after being up released into my new bedroom, because of course.

Has gone back to sitting under the bed but that's fine, she's got the rest of her life to explore the house. And to think I decided not to put her in a cattery for a few nights as I thought it would be too stressful for her....
