You have to be a complete and utter brainless knob jockey to turn right.... even taking into account any roadsign issues.
This, exactly this.

I sometimes wonder about the people on this forum, as those suggesting it's a fault of the signing also qualify for the above description.

Opulent makes a fair point about the RH lane having a right turn arrow on it, but if the dopy bat wanted to turn right why did she then make a 3/4 revoultion of the island? Plus the right turn arrow is countered in at least equal weight by the blue sign showing proceed to the left on the island itself, coupled with the chevrons pointing left....

Yep brainless knob jock sums it up.

The photo does not do it justice, I went round this roundabout at least twice daily for about 18 years, and for 5 of those lived only a mile away, and since then last time was about 3 months back. There is no way it could be mistaken for a T junction except to someone who should have been reported on summons for various offences.

I am actually staggered that somebody could go round this island the wrong way.

Moi..? I've been driving round it for 47 years, so have no difficulty in identifying it as a roundabout.
Ahhh - that clearly marks yourself out as an old duffer - perhaps you got a little confused biggrin
I left you an opening to exploit the ambiguity of circumnavigating the roundabout for 47 years. Your failure to grasp this and run with it demonstrates mental disorder...

But fear not, I shall summon an ambiwlans for you forthwith...hehe

Twice a day I use this roundabout, this and bowshaw [x2 non fault accidents so far...] are notorious for accidents. The one in question is a lot less greasy than it was, but it still gets people in the wet!

Bowshaw.
I never knew it as that but I assume you mean the one between Dronfield bypass and Chesterfield road South.

I always considered this as the slipperiest roundabout in Sheffield and Chesterfield, and the speeds were always too high probably due to good approach sightlines and people looking but not seeing.

I never figured out why it was soooooo slippery.

Hi, yes that's the one.

Both of the accidents I was involved in was not down to the conditions, both were in the summer and dry and bright.

The first heading onto the bypass from Sheffield, lane x2 all the way round, indicating left. 3rd party approached from Dronfield, lane x1 heading right to Sheffield and entered the roundabout ignoring me and clipping my nearside rear as I turned onto the bypass.

The second, I was on approach to bowshaw lane x2 dronfield bypass, merged on to the roundabout indicating left to take lane x2 first exit. Unfortunately a van decided to turn right from the left lane in front of me and I effectively t-boned the van.

Since the 2nd incident I am somewhat weary of a repeat, and would you believe it has happened, fortunately it was anticipated and I took avoiding action, but it must happen daily, it's a just a fluke that there isn't a crash every time!

Thanks for the sign, hehe shows I don't read locations when I know where I am.

Sorry to hear about your experiences but this sort of stuff is why I try never to position alongside or even near stuff on islands if I can.

That roundabout went round it late on a cold November night coming back home south from Snig Hill two years back when M1 was shut and best alternative was A61 and drop onto A38 @ Alfreton.

The fleet guy had loaned me a 118D demo car from BMW. I wasn't that impressed with it for various reasons, but came down to Bowshaw from Meadowhead roundabout to get onto Dronfield by pass. rolleyes

On the island lane 2 and this BMW was slithering about on its run flats and I was in the process of thinking that a) the roundabout was still as slippery as hell and b) the BMW steering was doing a good job of communicating that I was getting quite close to the limit when...

an absolutely knackered Alhambra taxi drove round the outside of me at least 15 mph quicker....

Yes but Taxis do have a note from Jesus excusing them from the laws of physics. Nothing takes a roundabout faster than a Taxi.

If you mean the direction sign, but what about this one? sign 606

Section 36 of Road Traffic act applies to this sign.

Yeah the 606 is most certainly a statutory sign. As has been said before, apart from that single, right turn arrow, there is no reason to get that roundabout wrong - you would have to be an extremely st driver to make that mistake.

I think he was referring to the "directions" sign I posted up. Which may or may not have a statutory meaning I don't know. But as a driver I'd say would indicate to me I was approaching a roundabout.

To be fair, the right-hand lane marking does show a mandatory "right turn" arrow. Current guidance dictates that on the approach to a roundabout, you either have a straight-ahead, or left turn arrow, to prevent people mis-reading the lane markings and driving the wrong way...
Lane markings are not unusual on roundabouts, but the CHEVRONS say it all, don't they?

I don't know if this is on topic or not but..

I once witnessed an old dear REVERSING back round a roundabout - on the A4 / keynsham bypass where it meets the A4174 & A4175.

Not a small round about, this was 10+ years ago before the traffic light control.

Presumably missed her exit.

Trouble is if you're in lane 3 you've already driven over 3 turn right arrows on the road and that 606 sign is over to the left.
Even if it was bang in front of you, there's scope for the confused smile

No there isn't.

I know that roundabout, the photo perspective does not do it justice as already stated, and merely serves to confuse those of you who don't know the locality.

Anyone turning right is a brain dead moron and if they are that confused should have their licence removed.

Even if she was a foreigner and used to going anti-clock round roundabouts there is an argument for requiring her to take a test.

Blue 606 sign AND chevrons in front of your nose is how it is in RL.

Now stop making yourself look stupid!

Just saying the signs are ok, only stupid people would turn right there, doesn't really stop it happening.
Strange that the same stupid people don't do the same at other roundabouts where the signs are ok.

Not worth a tiny revisit of the layout of the signs?

clap Since reading the post, I have been looking carefully at roundabouts, on work today, I drive over about 6 roundabouts, only 1 has a sign saying its a roundabout, although it's bloody obvious really.

maybe we should paint arrows on the entire road network to show which way you should be driving whistle

Met someone coming the wrong way earlier, with big bushes in the centre of the roundabout, I don't know how there wasn't a collision (2 lane roundabout, vehicles in both lanes). Also had someone coming towards me as I was heading onto a roundabout once. Quite a scary thing to experience.
