Car accident write off - next steps (copart)
Discussion
When my Mums car was written off the offer was really low. I emailed the Insurer 3 Autotrader links to similar cars within 50 miles away - exact model but all with mileages 20k more (my Mums car had only done 8k) and asked for the link to their complaints procedure. Got an email back offering £2,300 more.
When my wife’s Astra was nicked and written off, clippings from Autotrader and haggling got the final offer up considerably from the initial one. They’re buying the car from you. You are not obliged to take the first offer. Obviously you can’t be unreasonable, but the insurer will of course try it on as they are profit making business. If just 1 in 20 of the people they lowball say yes, that would add up to a considerable sum over a year.
I don't think it's wise to accept the first offer. You need to stand your ground and I'm sure they will increase it! At the end of the day it's still your car.
On a completely different note if you had a private number plate on the car you need to take it off NOW before you accept an offer and send any paperwork to the insurers. You'll be suprised how many people forget!

Hey, thought I’d make an account to tell you my horror story, financed a mk5 golf gt 170 with around 95k on clock at time of write off, was immaculate before hand apart from the stuttering and dying engine (finance company screwed me so had to pay out for that one) I was offered 2.5k I believe, showed no end of examples with same spec mileage age ect going for 4-6k and I was told I am lucky to be offered that, injury claim still going through as the crash was in oct 22 and my shoulder and hip still pops out of place, liability was admitted straight away as she had no excuse to rear end me as she was watching the aftermath of a crash that was already there 🤡
Appreciate this is an older thread, but may as well ask here. As I've never sold a car, just part-ex or scrapped, I have a query about the V5C when Copart collect.
Copart are collecting my car tomorrow and said to leave the V5C in the car. This doesn't seem right to me, or at least I should keep the 'sold the car to trade' section to inform the DVLA, right?

You may need the copart address that your insurer has provided.
