I ended up spending a bit more than I planned, and bought one of the last, with quite a lot of carbon fibre and a nice interior.

I’ll not be able to pick it up for a few weeks, so I get to read the manual, plan a trip, consider an unnecessary bit of tuning, and buy any accessories ready for when I get it.

So, what’s good to have? Is there a phone holder that people recommend? Any particular way to wire in the battery chargers? Any child booster seats that actually fit in the rear?

It’s a light silver. It says “extra sample”; does that mean it’s matched to a customer colour sample?

Looking closer, it might actually be pink-ish.

That’s the danger of buying a car without seeing it first.

I’ve two little boys who absolutely love coming out in “daddy’s racing cars” but rarely can, so a 2+2 gives me the chance to take the whole family out.

The McLaren nearly never gets used. It’s an absolutely wonderful car, but rarely feels like the right choice, so just doesn’t get used. That and the Lotus will be getting sold.

I think it’s a really nice car. I’ve had it a year, and its handling and feel is absolutely top-tier, but I find the V6 engine a bit bland. Maybe it’ll get better after it frees up a bit, but from new the shape of the power curve feels wrong, there’s no real build of pace as you get towards the red line.

It’s not a patch on the K-series as it was in the S1 Elise, the straight-4 in the Esprit or Excel, or even the three in the Yaris.

I suspect the AMG engine and auto box might be a better option.

Collection day today. Unfortunately the DVLA site stopped working, so it couldn’t be transferred to me or registered and I left in the same car I went there in, with a very surly four year-old saying “I hate this car.”

I need to read the manual. It’s beeping at me if I engage reverse (not once, continuously, and this isn’t the parking sensors), I can’t turn off voice prompts on the navigation, it beeps if I go over 70mph, goes into Auto three seconds after I shift with the paddles and doesn’t apply the parking brake when I stop.

I was told that the beeping while in reverse can’t be turned off.

The voice guidance needs to be turned off in the main car audio settings, not the Nav settings, and the strange rattling noise was the anti-sway bar falling off the car as the bolts attacking it hadn’t been tightened.

I believe when the Sat Nav is giving verbal guidance you can turn the volume down using the volume knob.

Turning the voice prompts down with the volume knob means that the music is still muted when the prompts are given. There’s an option in the general settings, under Audio to turn them off.
