Watched the show since the first season-has there been any info on why China was skipped and they flew from South Korea to Vietnam? From memory they crossed through China in the first season? Assumed logistics or getting permissions etc?

The mother and daughter who were booted last week were so lackadaisical-not surprised they went or would care that they did.
If I remember correctly from last time they couldn’t film for most of the time they were in China, crossing the boarder was a logistical nightmare and I can imagine things have only got worse post-COVID.

I’m less surprised they didn’t travel through it and more surprised they even planned to in the first place.

Mrs CK, who has been to China for work numerous times, reckons that they'd struggle to get across China on the budget and that it would be hard to arrange work to replenish the budget. And that's before the hassles with the Chinese authorities over filming. Personally I found the Chinese people very nice on the one occasion I went there with her but I guess officialdom is different.

I agree, the old boy can be a bit annoying; but if you’re traveling and a bit older, it’s almost like you’re invisible. The back packer crowd all sit round in groups sharing anecdotes of their escapades, oldies are not included.

I think most people underestimate how difficult something like this is, traveling 10/12 hours on a bus is very tiring, I did 12 hours sat in the front of this.

OK for one day, but doing it time and again must get very tiring.

I did Hanoi to Da Nang, the train is good and the route very scenic, I broke it down into 3 legs, only traveling in day light hours. 16 hours would be very tiring, although the locals seem able to sleep anywhere. I’m in my mid 60’s.

Teams seem to getting caught out, trying to get to the final destination, surely just get to the nearest decent sized conurbation, then get a bus from there.

While Eugenie and Isabel (mother and daughter) seemed to burn through money initially, they seemed to have reigned that in a bit, now other teams are being caught out, in the same way.

The final dash for the checkpoint seems somewhat contrived, what difference it makes if you’re first or second.

While very mature for their age ‘Alfie and Owen’ can be very amusing at times, James and Betty also come across well. I’m conflicted on this as I would like to see either team win.

This series is certainly more interesting than the last one (Canada). I’m not sure arriving at a checkpoint 1st is always a benefit, in the latest episode contestants were leaving the checkpoint in a small town at 04:30, when nothing is open, an extra couple of hours in bed is surely of a greater benefit.

12 hours on a bus from Bangkok to Phuket, think I would prefer the train to Surat Thani, then a bus to Krabi, still 12 hours; I find trains preferable to buses.

Other than the brother and sister pairing and the mother and daughter that went home, I am really struggling to like any of the other couples.

That old guy is just awful, but his Mrs is ok.

The young lad who always wears his chain on top of his t-shirt is ok, but that horrible little pr!ck he is travelling with can get in the bin.

The daughter of the remaining mother daughter couple is a horrible piece of work, but her mother isn’t too bad.

The journey they are taking this time though is incredible.

I’m guessing the next leg will take them to KL, I can imagine the travel being cheap, but not KL itself; do we think that will be the next checkpoint?

KL would make sense, or Singapore, but I heard it was Bukittinggi, Indonesia next

2 more legs after that and would seem odd to have them both in Indonesia, even though its still quite a distance to Lombok, but you never know.....

^ ^ ^ Actually, that makes sense, as KL is only about 12 hours from Krabi and not a particularly difficult route.

I guess travel will get a lot more challenging in Indonesia, with at least 2 more ferry crossings to come.

IMO Eugenie and Isabel are equally as bad, they certainly seem to go out of their way to bait each other. At some point Isabel has either been in an accident or had a botched operation, she has some serious scarring on both legs.

You have to admire Stephen and Viv’s (couple) stamina, they’re certainly not shying away from the taking the hard option. Yes I understand he’s an annoying old coot, but equally, he seems to want to enjoy it.

Alfie and Owen, yes Alfie is very direct, just says what he thinks, that probably stems from the hand he’s been dealt, some times the pair of them can be very amusing.

Betty and James; what’s not like, both very likeable.

I’m hoping the entry point to Sumatra is Medan, in the North, nearby is the absolutely stunning Danu Toba a old volcanic lake, will certainly make for an interesting route. I think ferry options may play a large part, (although it will be fairly controlled) to make it look like a race.

I find that Eugenie wants to chill but Isabel is always making little sniping remarks.

I'm guessing deep down there is something of a resentment towards the parent - which seems to be a common theme on this show.

^ ^ ^ Mrs. DG and I don’t have kids, so I’m probably not very tuned into it. All that aside, I’m really enjoying this series.

Of course you need to take all of the showing of the contestants with a pinch of salt, as the show is heavily edited to a story/drama.

I did laugh loudly at Isabels reaction to the fish!

It's interesting, that both my wife and I think the mother is a miserable cow who hasn't yet said one word of positivity to her charming daughter who has the patience of a Saint.

rofl we have the same view - the mother always seems to be somehow provoking & then relishing in being the victim.

Bit of an odd episode this one, I thought it would be a really good one, but IMO it was the weakest so far, focusing more on the trials and tribulations and less on the travel.

Something that surprised me, all the teams have travelled over land in Thailand so know the costs, but 3 teams chose the far more expensive option of speedboat, it’s actually about three times the cost of overland.

Owen, oh my god that’s so cool. Surprised the guy understood him.

Angkot modifikasi.

Eugine and Isabel (mother and daughter) are still pushing each others buttons.

The narrator saying Western tourist seldom travel there, not true; its certainly not like Bali, but still plenty of travellers especially Dutch. Let’s see what next week brings, hope it focuses more on travel.

Sums up my ex with our kids, 18 to 24.

Thinking about when the leading teams sometimes end up leaving the hotel at 4am in the morning and end up on the same transport as the later teams.

Why not time your arrival so you know that you'll leave when everything is open.

Might sod up the hold yer breath ending of each leg though biggrin

I'd be, right! we can see the hotel, so let's hole up in this cheap bar for a few hours.

Yes, sometimes there seems no advantage to coming in first. We thought it may be an idea to give the 'first-in' a bonus cash prize for their onward journey or something but I suppose that would only increase the gap between them.

Do they know what time they will be told to leave? How long they get in each stop ?
