The performance he needed, there's no way that car belongs where he put it. Hopefully he gets something out of the weekend.

If he now starts beating Yuki by even half this kind of margin, will they find a major fault with his old chassis?!?

Tyres seemed to be an issue for all the drivers, and tenths on the clock.

I can only assume that the tyres are on an absolute knife edge. Go over and zero grip. Go under and zero grip.

He was on a personal best in the first two sectors of his last lap attempt, but then lost a chunk of time in the final sector. We didn't see the lap on camera so I don't know if he made a mistake or the tyres just went away from pushing too hard early on in the lap.

if he's blaming/claiming the tyres cost him in quali for the main race he maybe needs to conceed he got lucky with them for the sprint?

Italy was a 1 off lucky win for him. He needs to show this consistantly for me to change my mind about him.

And yet it isn't. The flashes of talent and occasional results aren't predicted.

It would be far simpler if he was rubbish all the time and would have been gone a couple of years ago!

The inconsistency, the occasional great drive, more often jogging around the midfield being generally unimpressive and largely forgettable. That's what's predicatable.

I find it hard to believe that, in the same car, on the same track, his personal performance goes from P4 to last in the space of 24 hours.

We see it with other drivers, to a lesser extent, too. Something about these cars puts them on a knife edge.

Well, perhaps it was just the tyres on this circuit that upset things. Agree he wasn't the only one to struggle.

If we take this weekends error out if the equation, his time with the new chassis is looking okay at least.

I know we can't forever more say 'he needs more time', and I know that's become a joke... But I'd like to see a few more outings for him. I'm sure I will too, I'm thinking he's got until the summer break to sink or swim.
