Why the hell saddle it with that stupid illegal number plate though...??? £1000 fine / MOT fail / VOID insurance as correctly spaced insured registration not shown and looks utter gash - POOR CAR....
Your insurance is not voided by illegal spacing on your number plate.

I saw one of these down Derby Rd in Liverpool. I had just got my Honda S2000 and thought “should I or shouldn’t I” as I pulled up beside it. I decided I wouldn’t, which is just as well. It just took off leaving everything in its wake and not a hint of wheel spin. I had a look at the specs later and understood why.
If Toyota keep numbers to a minimum, this car could be worth a fortune in years to come, however being that the engine is turbocharged I have a feeling more manufacturers will have cars like this rolling off the factory floor.

Don't see that happening to be honest although I would love if it did.

It’s nothing to do with the tech in the Yaris unfortunately.

I just don’t see Toyota doing it. They only exist to make money for their shareholders.

It’s just a myth someone has started on a forum for some weird reason as they think it means the car is more special when realistically it’s just a lack of understanding of how businesses operate.

If VW can make a Golf R for cheaper than a Yaris Gr yet sell it for more then fair play they are doing something right! The more margin the better.
You might not see it, but that doesn't mean it's not possible. The GR Yaris isn't remote comparable to a Golf R. The Golf uses largely standard body panels, and a powertrain that is shared with numerous other models. The EA888 engine is used in loads and loads of different cars, while the Golf R unit (along with the gearbox and differential etc) is also used in the Cupra Leon and Audi S3. The economies of scale are very different.

Compare that to the Yaris which, as others have said, had a bespoke drivetrain (until it was put into the Corolla), and an almost entirely bespoke body. I believe they have shared that body with a lower spec model for the Japanese market, but grafting bits of Corolla floor pan into a Yaris, fitting a new roof and all new exterior panels will have cost a huge amount of money.

They may go on to recover the losses with the facelift car, but I wouldn't be at all surprise if some kind of loss was factored into the project. Cars like this are a marketing project, and it isn't unusual for a manufacturer to use them as loss-leaders. It has happened loads of times in the past.

Poor car? It's a number plate FFS laugh

If they don't like it, the buyer can just fit some standard spaced ones for about twenty quid. It's hardly the end of the world.

I'd agree that the red ones are indeed faster (maybe). Had ours 18 months from new, now with 10k miles on and love it to bits, we treat is as a 2 seater and keep the rear seats folded with a large rubber boot liner filling the back. We're leaving it standard as it doesn't need any more power or cooling or anything else. Toyota got it spot on so will be left alone. We intend to keep it forever and the 10 year warranty with cheap fixed price servicing, just like any regular Toyota, is a big bonus. I can't think of many cars that'd keep up with one over a B road point to point cross country dash, even supercars, so in our minds it is the performance bargain of the century. We love it.
The gold wheels on the red car look stunning, nice mod there fella.
