I thought this might be interesting to some - I haven’t seen another one on roads near me, and of course VW have now discontinued the model.

I was looking to change to something bigger - my B9 A4 saloon was a little tight for 3 growing boys. My wife has a Tucson which works ok for family duties, but I don’t particularly like driving it.

I took a look at a few options - some very left field (Honda Stepwgn!) - and went to view this and a Volvo V90 T4 Momentum+. I did like the Volvo but felt more at home in this so a deal was done.

I think the ‘Shooting Brake’ was introduced in 2020, and this is a facelift model being Dec ‘21.

I was due to head away with the wife and kids for a couple of days so the Dealer managed a quick turnaround and after shaking hands at 2pm on a Wednesday I was able to call past on Thursday morning with the A4 packed with bags and kids. It was nice being able to take it on a long drive and the family all approved thankfully - even my wife who usually hates white cars.

Here it is waiting for a National Trust house to open. White is going to be a challenge to keep clean:

I was able to give it a clean back at the ranch, and spend some time getting things set up the way I like.

Obligatory snow foam shot:

That’s more like it:

Very happy with how it drives. The 2.0 TSI (190) is plenty for my daily commute and the 7 speed DSG is smooth and well suited to the engine.

I need to move my private reg across once the V5 arrives, and the Dealer has ordered me a rubber boot liner. Other than that I plan to enjoy it and keep it looking showroom fresh. There’s 18k miles on the clock and 2 years of warranty left. Hopefully ownership will be trouble free.

Always liked these. It’s a shame VW stopped making them. frown

It is unfortunate! But then at the same time, will be a rare sight on the roads which I like.

In other news it’s developed a ‘travel assist unavailable’ fault and is booked in to main dealer on Wednesday. A quick google shows this is a common fault in the VW range. VW seem to have been changing the steering wheel as a fix. A little frustrating but oh well.

Lovely cars. I had the standard one with the same engine. Super economical too.

My sisters 2018 car has just had a DSG mechatronic failure at 30k miles. £2.5k fix. It is still under VW main dealer warranty. Initial discussion was that it was a wear and tear item, but VW saw the light. It has been off the road for 5 weeks. Pretty poor show.
I was surprised to see that they had a recall in the US of A + other countries, but nothing in the UK.

On a positive note, it looks like a fantastic car.
Well wear.

I would like to say thankfully no issues with mine but it has just had a new steering wheel fitted to address a Travel Assist fault.

To be fair to VW they gave me a lift to work and had the job done in 2 hours. Seems to have sorted it and of course it’s nice having a box fresh steering wheel.

I stepped out of an A4 1.4 tfsi. This is less economical than that, but still solid 40+mpg in daily driving - and of course more power / a heavier car needs factored in. Much bigger fuel tank too and will take almost £100 of super! The A4 brimmed at about £70.

Same here - previous car was the A4 S-Line 1.4. The Arteon had an uncanny ability to be economical though. I did 27,000 miles in it through lock down and achieved over 60mpg for many longer journeys (50 plus miles), making my 190PS petrol more efficient than the diesel on paper. Never really figured out why this is the case, perhaps the empty roads helped.

Interesting! What's your current car so I know what to change to after the Arteon lol. Yes MPG on a run is great. Much of my driving is commuting though, where I do 16 miles each way at about 20mph average if I'm lucky!

The 'Travel Assist Unavailable' fault seems to be gone with the new steering wheel. Popped over to the dealer Friday lunch time to get my private plate on, and to drop in the V5 for the Audi so they can finally shift it on.

Next job on the Arteon was to fit a Maxton Splitter. Maybe not to everyone's taste but I like it! No pictures of the actual fitting, but popped the car up on axle stands and had plenty of access. My Dad called past to give a hand and it brought back memories of us working on my classic Mini when I was 17, and before that changing the spark plugs on my Mum's Vauxhall Nova! He used to be an aircraft fitter and enjoyed the job on a sunny Friday evening. Definitely a 2 man job.

Glued and bolted - not going anywhere.

And also fitted a wee PH Smiley - although it's already lost the top of one of the pistons. It won't hold up to my wash regime.

Next steps are to spend a bit of time with the DA polisher. There's a couple of light scratches here and there.

Rubber boot liner on order.

30k miles!!! Glad it's getting sorted anyway. I will be keeping up with servicing on this and ahead of schedule as I did with the A4.

Haha - currently have a 2023 Tiguan R-Line. It has the 150PS engine but not that much noticeably slower than the 190PS Arteon (although not as good on mpg).
