Some had on early cars 260mm rear discs.Later ones had 273mm .
Fronts are 260mm. I am just upgrading my 2001 Chimaera fronts to 300mm Focus discs & Brembo 4 pot calipers. The rears 273 as standard, but I have gone for drilled & grooved all round with standard pads.
Not aware that the 400 had different brakes to the 500.
Someone will be along shortly to correct me.
Steve.

1996-onwards 400s had the 500 brakes, ie 260 fr, 273 rears. I'm fairly sure that coincided with the facelift, ie grille change, but whether there were a few 'hybrids' I can't recall now. There were several variations before that date, with 93/94 500 brakes also slightly different IIRC.

What years are you talking about?

All Ford kit from the factory. Nothing fancy or complicated. Bigg Red has been fine for me.

First cars had 240mm discs on front, changed to 260mm for the majority of production (different calipers)

Rears will either be 253mm solid discs or 273mm vented discs (different calipers and hub/caliper carrier).

BiggRed will have all the parts or do the job if you're after refurbing rather than upgrading. All parts are Ford, certain Sierras or Granada/Scorpio.

The fronts are easy to rebuild yourself, the rears are rather difficult because of the handbrake system, there is a special ford tool to help do this if you can find someone with one, it’s possible without, but difficult
