Help - sash lock for fire door
Discussion
Hi all,
I have a new internal fire door to the garage, but as you can see from the picture, everyone using it is getting painfully pinched fingers as it opens between the frame and the handle.
The door knob matches all others on the ground floor so swapping to a handle isn’t going to work.
I need a deeper 4” sash lock with vertical latch and lock, fire rated, brass finish.
Simple right? Well I have googled and so far no luck at all. I can get one but not fire rated. Local ironmonger has nothing.
Any lock experts out there that can give me some pointers where I might get one please?

Would this do? Union sash lock. The technical document says it’s 60 min fire rated. It’s an oval cylinder, not sure if they do a traditional style. Be aware the new escutcheon may not cover the old key hole due to the increased backset.
20 seconds on Howdens site.

Your problem is the door jamb as you need the deeper back stop ie the spindle needs to be further from the rebate to eliminate finger trapping, without looking at your door it’s hard to know whether a deeper lock case will fit, but even if it does your spindle and lock holes will be partly on show so filling needed as the handles have moved further into the door jamb.
My price for the above lock £39 + vat.
