Drove a Jaguar XF Diesel S and got 13mpg ???

Ok I did floor it a couple of times but 13mpg ????

I managed 9mpg in a Focus 1.9TDCi. As the Americans often abbreviate, YMMV.

fk me that must be some kind of record.

I got 16mpg in a Megane Diesel. Managed by mashing the throttle, late braking like Kamui Kobyashi and generally being an absolute tt.

This makes me happy as I got 35 mpg when I was in a hurry driving to Richmond from Poole in my E39 528 auto petrol. Normally get 37-40 when I'm driving gently on that journey.

What is the normal fuel economy of that drive? And was it a tad cold out?

Kinda defeats the object of having a diesel, no? Especially when the horrible stuff is 5p/l more than unleaded.

I'd imagine a nice XF SV8 would be more economical than those figures.

My father has one and gets average of 27mpg over the last 10k miles.

He has a reasonably heavy right foot and does not drive to save fuel.

From cold? with the diesel heater running & struggling to get to temp. PH where posting bks matters!
My S-Type diesel can do the same or worse on a cold day, which is a very similar lump.
Try a petrol under the same circumstances.

I got 16mpg in my A4 1.9tdi while towing a 2.2ton Renault Master up hill on the A2 from dover to faversham. It does 44 normally.

My 2.7 turbo petrol would manage about 20mpg in similar circumstances.

Did somebody unbolt a turbo pipe before driving it?

Drill a hole in the tank?

On a twisty road, with a straight before it and a bit of a through town run, I've managed 30mpg in my Golf diesel.

If you cane it, your economy will suffer no matter how much straight/easy run you do.

Take it to the motorway, get up to 60mph, reset the trip computer, hold it there (on CC if you have it) and see what the results are. If it's still 13mpg - you've got a problem.

Not the early one's.

Nah I absolutely thrashed it. I did reset it and drive it sensibly and at one point it got to over 42mpg.
Its a great motor.

Thats expected MPG. Not actual.

I have seen over 40mpg in numerous XF's
