Andrew Frankel and Chris Harris are actually good friends. They’re at polar opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of how they come across on camera or in front of a microphone though. CC. Done. CH and Neil were fantastic. Need their own show. Perceptions are always interesting. I’m the exact opposite I find Frankel interesting and ridiculously knowledgeable. Especially when he starts getting into history. I find Prosser a bit odd, the way he speaks sometimes makes me think he is trying a bit hard to be poetic like he is writing (probably just me that one).
What I don’t like about the Intercoller podcast though is the way it often feels like Prosser is interviewing Frankel. He asks the questions Frankel answers mostly. Almost like he doesn’t quite hold himself in the same level as his co host.
Which of course might just be that he is a bit shy and doesn’t want to be seen to say the wrong thing. Which I can’t criticise to much as I would be exactly the same.
It’s quite interesting how the industry has changed in the last 15 years. It seems if you want to be a successful motoring journalist now you have to be willing to be on podcasts and video as well as write. To be a face and personality. Where as before you could simply write your pieces and be in the odd photo. I’m sure some are not so comfortable wit it.

Collecting Cars and Smith and Sniff are the two I tend to listen too. I subscribe to others, but only tend to listen if the synopsis appeals. As some people have a face for radio, some journalists should be read but not heard.
It's more American focused but The Smoking Tire us always a good listen, twice weekly episodes also..As for CC, it'll be back. An earlier post on here showed a reply on the insta saying they'll be back in a few weeks. The CC post feels like it's been put out to garner some attention and some interaction on their account.
Chris Harris does have a series coming with Paddy Mcguiness on the BBC soon, he could well be away doing the filming for that for a few weeks.

My go to are (were) Collecting Addicts and the Autocar podcast with Steve Cropley and Matt Prior (on a Wednesday). To be honest, Autocar just had the edge - always interesting, knowledgeable and genuinely likeable guys. A couple of the CA guys were starting to grate a little but still a show I looked forward to.

It seems if you want to be a successful motoring journalist now you have to be willing to be on podcasts and video as well as write. To be a face and personality. Where as before you could simply write your pieces and be in the odd photo. I’m sure some are not so comfortable wit it.
Good post, couldn’t agree with you more. You’re spot on with the dynamic between the two of them. Dan needs to give himself more credit but instead he acts a bit like a student with Andrew being the teacher. I find Prosser a bit odd, the way he speaks sometimes makes me think he is trying a bit hard to be poetic like he is writing (probably just me that one).

The TI podcast is generally good but I feel like they are running out of ideas at times (same for a lot of car themed podcasts). There are only so many topics to discuss and when motoring news is sparse, no events going on etc they begin to wheel in the guests…..some interesting, some not so - but that’s subjective I guess.
I think a weekly frequency is hard to keep up with for most podcast hosts. It’s good for us consumers but the general theme here is people are finding them lacking now and they are all feeling that challenge.
I must say, I do enjoy the CA podcast and it’s a shame it’s now seemingly dropped off the radar. You’d think they’d be a bit of a heads up about it finishing so perhaps something is afoot. I guess we’ll find out.

Interesting phrase. For me, Dan always sounds like a head boy at a grammar school receiting his prize winning homework. It's so earnest, and technically correct. But lacks any joy or sense of personality.The market has changed for CA since they started the podcast.
UK is both over saturated for online auctions, and general sentiment in prices has turned.
They have given up on the US entirely, presumably as Cars and Bids and Bring a Trailer have it seen up.

It is much better then . I loved the ones with the anorak's anorak Richard Bremner on his British Leyland experiences - funny , wry and self deprecating . Dan seems a nice guy but Frankel sounds increasingly like a David Cameron tribute act . He knows a lot of stuff about some areas of motorsport - eg 50s Le Mans - but bluffs and blusters about stuff he actually knows sweet FA about . I met him once - I think he confused me with something unpleasant stuck on his shoe.

To be fair, Andrew Frankel was attending car launches when Dan was not even born and he is far more experienced. I think they are a good pair. However, Andrew could be a bit more concise sometimes...What I do not enjoy, in any car podcast, is Formula 1 talk. It is as boring as the races. Always.

It is interesting the takes different people have. Frankel does have a good depth of knowledge but his delivery is pompous and lack of self awareness biblical. He has no idea when to keep quiet and let the guest speak. Then there's the 'ummm..yeah..ummm...and...yeah...'
They need a far better format, somehow.

Shame the podcast has ended as several people that weekend told me it was worth listening to. Very good event, unusual these days for there not to be some people who spoil these things for others and their absence was very notable.

I like them all and find Neil a breath of fresh air. I think Chris Cooper has a huge breadth of business experience that he doesn't get to share, which I'm sure I would find interesting, although it probably wouldn't be a crowd pleaser for most. I thought they were all really good in their own ways, I think it's an awful lot harder to do and set up than it appears and doing it every week would I think get old very quickly as a side job/hobby/favour (call it what you will)
I really enjoyed listening to them babble on about stuff, giving insights, sharing knowledge with a bit of story telling thrown in for good measure.
