You mentioned the Hotel de France earlier, and I thought you might see this model which was made by a departed dear friend and we went together to present it to the Pasteau family who had owned the hotel from the beginning of the last century until about 2013. I won't go into the reasons, but the diorama is no longer there unfortunately.
John Curtis, who made the model to commemorate the one time that Aston Martin won Le Mans in 1959, seen here with the Pasteau family,
I inherited a couple of his diaromas from the family

Roadside picnic once more for lunch. A little under 200 miles to go until Almería. Cloudy and little cooler, but pleasant.
Two new tyres and one new wheel means we now have a full compliment of aerated tyres and a good quality spare
Edited to add, new cover for my leg/armrest cushion purchased too

We have finally landed at our digs near Valencia. Will not be driving through there again, just glad it was a Sunday!
The Spanish city planners appear to have got a deal on traffic lights, zebra crossings, speed bumps and roundabouts and applied them furiously. What price safety though, eh
Not sure if images are loading, but if they are…
and if not, picture miles of smooth winding roads

We have made it! 1876 miles from home with only a flat/knackered tyre and an occasionally sticky accelerator cable. The 2CV has done us proud
One minor upset on arrival, as the only space I could park in to unload the baggage was on a 30 degree slope and the handbrake wasn’t happy. Oops, I pulled a little too hard and fully compressed the pad return springs. Luckily found a security fence base to act as a chock whilst I gave the handle a superhuman effort and got it to release. Very clean hill start and away we go to find a flat parking spot for the next three days!
Sorted and happy to be here

Yes, well done. Really enjoyed reading this road trip and everyone's comments. I'm sure it's enthused many readers to do the same. Enjoy your - and your car's - rest.
I hope you've been welcomed everywhere, just as I was on a very brief trip yesterday in my French classic. A wave from a Volvo Amazon estate and an 850 Mini, rapture from a young man in his twenties and a ninety year old leaning out of his car's window to hear my V8 exhaust note. The joys of driving an old car - not just owning!

2CV's are great cars, lovely on a chilled out lazy paced road trip. I can understand why some people don't like them if they're simply not their thing, but those who write them off as rubbish, and with some vehemence at that, are just idiots. Not only do they have no idea, they have no idea of the scale by which they have no idea.

You're absolutely right, 21CM.I've often been roasted on PH for my defence of cars that don't fit with the mantra of "Speed Matters", but I maintain that it can work both ways. 2CVs are great because of their speed: it just happens that their speed is low, so you enjoy other things like the view, other people's reactions, maintaining momentum at all costs etc.
I view this forum as a safe place.
Loving the updates, OP: keep it up, but enjoy your rest period.

Except for NP&E – the septic tank of PistonHeads. People who don't get 2CVs just aren't on the same wavelength. I get (or got) the same feeling of well-being driving a 2CV as I get (or got) when sailing a little Topper or Wayfarer. You just don't get that same chill charging about in some powerful car (or boat).

Easing one out on the up change as it gently farted off up the road.
I contrived to take one in part exchange once, in about 2005 I reckon, so it would have been against a Hyundai. 'Twas a Traveller, 1969 on a G plate and fitted with a 1275cc engine from a Marina, Marina front suspension and a Ford T9 gearbox. The rear box was one of those dreadful Cherry Bomb contraptions, but it sounded just the same as the farty pea-shooter, only louder.Whoever said that we might be underwhelmed by Gibraltar was correct. It’s basically an English seaside town on a hill with its own permanent cloud generator. We haven’t even been able to relax by the pool as it’s been overcast and frankly chilly since we arrived
Still, the hotel is fine and I’ve a day tomorrow to check over the 2CV before we head for Caceres and the sunshine once more.
I have no one to blame but myself, I allowed my BiL’s wife to book the accoms and clearly her version of 150 miles a day leaves about 100 miles a day to be desired
Still, we’re here and we’re enjoying it. Seems difficult to believe we’re on the return journey in a day!
Stay tuned…
