Indeed. It was close. Seems to be the general consensus ... so who's right 'tiger'?
Bizarre language in any case, the right man won.

That 10 / 8 def' swung it. Agreed.
If the ref had let that barrage continue, Fury would have been officially KO'd also.
As I say, though, there were rounds where Fury looked better. And there were a couple where it was close enough to go either way. It's why I said early in the fight, it might come down to one point...
The rematch will be interesting. To see what adjustments are made by both camps.
Fury will have to be the fighter coming forward. Can't be walking back into the ropes doing the rope-a-dope and showboating. If the ref had let that barrage continue, Fury would have been officially KO'd also.

Hold the center of the ring, working the body and the opportunity for head shots will come along. Fury did have successful rounds doing this, but for some reason reverted back to playing the counter puncher game and pissing around.
If Fury wins the rematch, do we get a trilogy?

My scorecard fwiw
Round 1 10-9 Usyk
Round 2 10-9 Usyk
Round 3 10-10 Draw
Round 4 9-10 Fury
Round 5 9-10 Fury
Round 6 9-10 Fury
Round 7 9-10 Fury
Round 8 10-9 Usyk
Round 9 10-8 Usyk
Round 10 10-9 Usyk
Round 11 10-9 Usyk
Round 12 10-9 Usyk
That's a 116-112 scorecard to Usyk
I would have no arguments with someone who gave Fury (or Usyk) the 3rd round and also the 8th or 12th to Fury. If you give Fury all 3 of those, then it's 115-114 to Fury (I think, someone check my maths)
For Fury to win, he has to get all the swing rounds IMO. So with 3 judges, I'd expect a draw overall at worst for Usyk, but it was a close fight that you can give quite wide to Usyk, or very marginally to Fury on fair scorecards

I wonder with Fury’s well documented mental health struggles whether this will tilt him the wrong way. He’s expressed how it’s boxing that keeps him on the rails.
I hope it doesn’t cause him to spiral.
Focus seems to be what keeps him on the right path.I hope it doesn’t cause him to spiral.
He'll certainly have something focus on with the rematch.

Very interesting.
I had usyk winning by tko in the 9th.
Not sure why we had 3 more rounds.
Not even sure thats debatable.
It really isn’t debatable, Paul was ready to throw finishing punches until the ref jumped in and gave him over the due time with his delayed count. I had usyk winning by tko in the 9th.

This sort of conduct needs to get stamped out.

So I've watched this back and forth, I do think it's a little debatable, was with you at first (FWIW I'm training to be a ref and judge)I had usyk winning by tko in the 9th.

The rule is that if the only thing holding up a fighter is the ropes, you're allowed to score a KD.
Fury hits the rope 3 times. the first 2 times, his legs have gone and he's stumbling back, and uses the ropes to get himself some stability - that's not a KD
The third time, he does look like he's falling, and the ropes stop him from doing so. He then regains his footing a little which stops him from taking a knee and the ref jumps in
Now, if the 3rd one happened the first time, I think it's a KD for sure and the ref did the right thing. What complicates things here is that Fury is being ragdolled around for like 15 seconds, stumbling all over the place and not intelligently defending himself. At that point, I think if the ref is jumping in it should probably be to stop the fight

Usyk Was never in enough trouble for there to be talk of fury finishing him off.
I thought he looked in real trouble in the 6th and 7th, and had Fury been able to continue to land to the body like that and catch him with uppercuts for another round or so, he was there for the taking. Usyk did what Usyk does and bit down on his gumshield and adjusted brilliantly. It's what makes him one of the best to ever do it. Put any other HW in that situation and they're likely getting stopped before the end of the 9th, Usyk basically stopped Fury by then.Edited by Pugaris on Sunday 19th May 03:16
Great fight and a great result for Usyk, the better man won, which doesn't always happen in boxing. It wasn't an easy night for Usyk and by the halfway point I thought Fury was ahead and his body shots were having an impact on Usyk, but then Usyk turned the heat up and was comfortably in control for the second half of the fight.
Fury should be grateful the ref gave him a few extra rounds to try and get the win, because Usyk had Fury in serious trouble there in the 9th.
Overall, I thought Fury acquitted himself well, came in looking as fit and ready as he has in years, he did clown around a bit (exposing his nerves) but at least he didn't say or do anything stupid in the run up, unlike his arsenal dad. Well, it was a going so well for Fury, until he said the result of the fight was a sympathy vote for Ukraine being invaded by Russia. What an absolute bell end.
Usyk's story is an amazing one and I do think him one of the all-time greats. He is the perfect example of dedication and hard work paying off.

Less clowning early on and more dictating the pace and not backing into the ropes it would've been that bit closer. Happy for usyk either way but don't really understand why Tyson as the much bigger man kept allowing himself to be backed into a corner. I understand he probably wanted usyk to open up and counter him but it was clearly not working.

Tusc, I respect your opinions hugely, but I had that really, really close, so close I'd not have argued with Fury by one, Usyk by one or a draw. But. The right guy won because Usyk WAS robbed of a KO. Other than that round, I don't think Usyk 'controlled' the fight, and I'd say that for those who laugh at Fury they really need to show him some respect now as that was Usyk's hardest fight by a country mile. People can't hold Usyk up as an ATG and then belittle Fury after a performance like that. Regardless of the scores, for me, the BEST man won. A great fight, let's all keep the insults and barbs to ourselves and respect these two guys who laid it all on the line. Peace and love all, gbn x
100% it was a great close fight. The clowning made me cringe but I don't think it was a true lack of respect, I think he was desperate to try and throw usyk off in some way. As for the comments about the war, again, cringe... But AJs ramblings were a hell of a lot worse and everyone's forgotten about that pretty quickly and he's back to being the darling of UK Heavyweight boxing ... He's heavily media trained and fury isn't - which do you prefer.. a man who just says what's on his mind whether it's right or wrong or someone who's always playing to the camera until they aren't and they spew a load of garbage?
People say stupid things and flare up in the heat of the moment, it is what it is.
