Carter just doesn’t have it in him to beat Ronnie. Clearly a talented player, but physchologically just not there.

Crumbled when it mattered, and that’s the difference between a talented player and and the best the sport has ever seen.
I liked how he got the 'he's beginning to annoy me' comment in, a nod to Jimmy White back in the 90s. Sadly Carter is another White, incredibly talented but lacking that ultimate mental strength required to close out a big final.

Still the man to beat. I did have a funny inkling that Carter would do better than he normally does against ROS, and to his credit he’s played superbly this week. By his exalted standards the final wasn’t ROS’ best by he knows how to win and his tactical management of how to exert pressure is superb.

I don’t know why the others can’t find a way to beat ROS consistently as he is less consistent than he previously was. I thought Trump had it figured out a couple of years ago but he now seems to be stuck between his natural flair game and wanting to win and it doesn’t seem the two are compatible. Playing like a modern Jimmy White means he’d always win something but I don’t think he has the game to be an all time great. He also has a fundamental technical flaw which he can work around some of the time and not others. Selby isn’t the granite man he was a while back and loses games I simply wouldn’t expect him to. Shaun Murphy wilts when the pressure is on. John Higgins is also slowly fading away. Neil Robertson doesn’t seem to have the stomach for it anymoreC and every time he plays he struggles. Mark Williams is the enigma he always was and as for players like Karen Wilson, Macgill etc, they’re lost mentally before they break off against ROS it seems to me.

Only really dip into snooker for the big tournaments and enjoy watching O’Sullivan.

Thought that was a great final, quite tense. A couple of extra pots from Carter could have swung things in a different direction (or at least made it harder for O’Sullivan).

Shame he isn’t a bit happier having just won a major tournament.

I would agree that the comments become tiresome but I genuinely think he has to question it all to keep interested in playing as 30 years at the top of your sport must be difficult regardless as many lose the passion.

It will be a sad day when he retires as the sport may not see anyone as talented again.
Agreed, did anyone else notice he was playing in trainers
That was explained earlier in the broadcast . . . Something to do with lots of running iirc &pain in the arches of foot/feet . . . special exemption for the footwear.

Probably why he won wink
Thanks, missed that

Had my doubts Ronnie would win at 6-3, but he came back and got the job done. Love to see him take his 8th world title in April. Ronnie the GOAT.

I always feel like Ronnie deliberately goes behind in finals to make it more of a challenge and therefore more interesting to him to win it.

An amazing talent for sure.

I thought that as well.

The commentators and ROS himslef kept saying that he doesn't know how to leave the table and just wants to keep potting balls but he can play some pretty amazing safety when he wants to - he just chooses not to most of the time.

Ronnie is a one off, a marmite character but snooker will be a much poorer sport once he retires.

Wasn't a great performance yesterday by his standards but got the job done. Ali Carter went to pieces at the end. Would love him to win the third triple crown in april to hold all 3 at once as it's one of the very few things he hasn't achieved in snooker.

Shouting out from the crowd got annoying yesterday too.

Ali felt the same: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/snooker/67978830

It is not clever and was completely unnecessary

The biggest disappointment for me was Hazel's jackets. In the afternoon session of the final she was wearing a pink one. My missus said she had been wearing a blue and yellow one in previous days so we were convinced she was going through the colours in order, up to the last session. biglaugh

It was devastating to see she wasn't wearing black for the last session !

It was odd the way he looked totally out of sorts but bounced back.

Watching the final session, it was obvious that there was a handful of audience members who can't hold their drink.

It was painful to watch because of the idiots shouting out, its snooker, not boxing, you morons...

They need to ban or restrict alcohol sales during the massive break between the afternoon and evening sessions

Or just go the whole hog, maximise the venue's profits, and have a party atmosphere like the darts. Would be interesting to see how players react/cope with that hehe

Won't solve a thing. People would just to the pub round the corner.
