Wareham Forest this afternoon.
This new bike continues to delight and deliver. 11 minutes 16 seconds shaved off an 11.88 mile Strava segment today. I was trying to go faster, obviously, but still really surprised at the margin of difference. There's more room to improve too, as I hadn't exactly "turned myself inside out" to achieve this result.
I also rode up to the trig point on Woolsbarrow Hill Fort for the first time. There are still oodles of quality gravel forest roads to explore, as well as some interesting looking single track entry points that I had no time to drop into.
I didn't think the area had that much going for it, after previous visits, but I'm keen to make a return trip or three now. The more I look, the more great gravel I find. Perfect for getting the best from this Argon18 Dark Matter. The chassis is excellent, but it needs a bigger engine, or an extensive tune-up at the very least...

ANZAC Day pilgrimage to Codford St. Mary. 97 WW1 ANZAC soldiers rest eternally in this quiet Wiltshire cemetery, in the care of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. I couldn't be there this morning for the wreath laying, but the afternoon's peace in the cemetery was interrupted only by the church clock striking 5 pm.
Poole Harbour from high on the Purbeck ridge.
Trig point has seen better days.
Old Harry Rocks.
Studland (South Beach) pillbox. Very close to inaccessible as the tide was high and flowing.
Frank's Tank. And yes, for those what know it, I did, indeed, ride the Rocky Horror Show segment of the bridleway down through the golf course to get there.
Lovely afternoon out on the Isle of Purbeck. Corfe Castle out to Old Harry up and along the ridge, and back over the heath. It just started to spit with rain in the last two miles, but the proper rain held off until I'd got the bike back into my car. Very slow going, on account of the long climb onto the ridge, but spectacular views and scenery were the reward. One slo-mo "crash" on a really awful bridleway just out of Studland village. I picked a poor line through a section that horses' hooves had turned into something resembling the Somme, and scraped my knee and forearm on a bit of dried mud.

Just back from doing the Loch Ness loop for the Caledonia Etape, absolutely fantastic route and what a difference it makes having no cars on the road.
Same One day I hope to shake off my competitive nature and enjoy the scenery a bit more
Overall 4mins faster than 2022, no idea how, 4kg heavier, poor training and prep. Bloody hell it was cold leaving Inverness!
