Has the Rolex bubble finally burst? Perhaps it has
Discussion
I got a call the other day saying that Mark Appleby the Crown Jeweller is going to be in branch for the afternoon and asking if we fancied coming on for a chat with him.
Not something I had ever thought about and actually think it could be quite interesting, so we took them up on their offer.
After googling him he is only the 10th ever Crown Jeweller.
Anybody else going alone?

Four years on the waiting list for a GMT and still no luck.
Went into branch today and all I could have was a Sea Dweller or a yellow gold and black submariner date.
Buy this instead. They only made 20 of which far less remain. Useable everyday and 230bhp.Went into branch today and all I could have was a Sea Dweller or a yellow gold and black submariner date.
And most importantly it’s available immediately and you don’t have to plead to buy it.

I have never seen my watches as investments and neither have I believed my vehicles to be investments. I buy them cars and watches as I like them and want to use them.
If I get bored with any of them I would just change it but not from an investment perspective.
My investments are just that a portfolio of funds, direct stock holdings, bank deposits and so forth leaving my watches to be watches and cars to be cars.
As nice as that little TVR is the ownership costs are going to be considerably more than the ongoing ownership costs of a watch. Nice car all the same.

Just landed in Spain, happened upon a multi-brand AD whilst waiting for hotel check in time.
The boss now has her first PP. She has wanted this model for ages and our local AD has always given the run around.
For myself, I tried the root beer, RG sky-dweller and yellow gold Daytona.
I settled on the Daytona
21% VAT refund makes this not an awful deal.
The other options were these two:

Does he buy everything the royals wear? Prince Charles IIRC likes Ulysse Nardin but no idea where he (his direct staff) sources things that he wants for him or if he picks from a “catalogue” suggested by the crown watch guv?
I would have thought that an expression of interest would be made direct to the factory and then a design created and signed off in due process.
I can't believe off the shelf products would be sourced for the royals even if it was just a case of adding a royal Monika or something to personalise it.
POW spec Aston Martin cars springs to mind

How does the 21% VAT refund when buying from Spain work?
Surely one has to declare the purchase at the UK border and then pay 20% VAT, meaning you save 1%?
You are correct. Either the OP has forgotten this (unlikely) and will end up paying, or him and his wife will wear the watches through customs NTD. Is there also a small import tax?Surely one has to declare the purchase at the UK border and then pay 20% VAT, meaning you save 1%?

Picked up yesterday , First Rolex , very happy .
Should add , it's very tight on my wrist so have ordered a couple of spare links at a very reasonable price from the dealer .
That looks fantastic, I really like the Air King design but can imagine it being tight. I went to try one on and it wouldn't go over my hand with the default number of links.Should add , it's very tight on my wrist so have ordered a couple of spare links at a very reasonable price from the dealer .

Why should you have to pay to get it sized correctly, that's bizarre?Gassing Station | Watches | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
