Have you bought one of those great looking Rolex/Omega fakes
Discussion
I have next to no interest in watches, I haven't worn one for at least 25 years but then a couple of years back an Omega caught my eye that I really liked the look of. As a non-watch person I'm not looking to spend thousands on one but I saw these fakes which seem like a reasonable watch in their own right so I started a thread on here saying as much, and got absolutely flamed then the thread got deleted!
Anyway I got a Seiko in the end that I like very much, and suits me down to the ground.

There are some incredible replicas available, and a whole community who talk about 'trusted dealers' and quality control pics etc.
Everything is discussed, from the movements, to the anti-reflective glass, down to the steel and screws.
Personal view is if you are on an average salary and live in a normal house etc - it's laughable to be going round in a £30k Replica Rolex Daytona.
A nice idea IMO is if you've been considering a £3k-£5k Explorer/Datejust level for a long time but are hesitant to pull the trigger - get one of these (top end model for circa £600) and if you still love it after 12 months, buy genuine. You might found the itch has been scratched by then.
Another reason - you may be a Rolex man but lately IWC are really catching your eye, but you've bought other brands previously and always go back to your Rolex. You can try others out without a big outlay....
Completely understand why people hate them, so not going to argue/defend this position.

As my post above - IMO this is when a Replica can be a decent idea.Anyway I got a Seiko in the end that I like very much, and suits me down to the ground.
You could have paid a few hundred for the replica Omega, and bought genuine if you still loved it after a year (or just kept replica if you were happy enough with that).

If you really really need to itch any sort of watch scratch then buy a UK homage - not a far Eastern fake
Difference now seems that counterfeiters have raised their game - a lot, every single component precisely remanufactured to the extent that even the experts are being fooled.
Normally fakes were greatly inferior to the real mc coy : Ferrari replicas with the slightly odd wheelbase and Toyota steering wheel, or a 'Chibson' USA Gibson Chinese guitar copy made of balsa wood with a bolted on neck, or some cheap nasty under-the-counter Benson and Hedges .
What if the next generation of fakes become so good, not just in appearance, that there is little point paying 100 fold -for something that you may not easily be able authenticate as genuine...

Who are you trying to impress with a fake Rolex or Omega, why are you trying to impress them more importantly?
Do wearers of genuine Rolex/Omega wear them to impress people? The answer (that few people will openly admit) is "Yes they do". It says "I have spent lots of money on a watch, I am rich!". And it's upsetting to them when somebody else creates the same impression for only a few hundred quid.
If people were wearing Rolex et al because they appreciated the quality, engineering, workmanship then it would matter not a jot if somebody else was wearing a fake. Wearing a fake doesnt affect the enjoyment of quality/engineering etc, the only thing it dilutes is the image.
yes i have a Rolex, but really couldn't care less if somebody wants to wear a fake
Wear whatever you want. Luxury brands pay millions in advertising/product placement because they know about human psychology . I, like a that an awful lot of people, enjoy the satisfaction of strapping on an 'expensive' watch, which celebrates hard work and success every time I look at it. As I moved up the ranks professionally I also moved from cheaper to more pricey watches. Yes some people also want to convey the impression of success. However, whilst fakes can satisfy the latter, only genuine can the former.
My father had a Nat Geo subscription I used to avidly read 45 years ago. I always knew I wanted an Explorer 2 because of their full page ads..cost me £2.5k new when I realised the dream..worth it

I own a fake sub, a high end super rep. I leave it in my 'bait' box with some other non reps. The non reps are just normal watches Gshocks, Seiko etc.
I hope heaven forbid if I even get broken into, the thief will see the Rolex and think it's pay day and not bother look any further, just take the box of watches and run.
Thing is, there are so many stories of people dying over wearing a fake Rolex, at least get murdered for a real one.

I paid £80 for a fake submariner 25 years ago, sadly it died last year. I own a genuine one too and to be honest looking at both watches there's no difference, it's only when you get to feel the difference the way the bezel clicks, and the clunk of the clasp.
No doubt the fakes have probably improved in 25 years.

I think that the pyschology of people who wear fakes is interesting.
Anybody who pays over a 'large amount' (subjective viewpoint) for a watch is buying it to pep up their confidence somewhat, we are saying that we are buying this trinket which costs way too much compared to a F-91W because we associate that value with ourselves.
People who wear fakes, see through that, or it doesn't matter to them, they are more about signalling to other people. They don't need to drop a lot of money to make themselves feel good.
I suppose the last group who wear the watches like the last two images, probably have the most confidence, in that they didn't need to drop a large amount of money on a watch and they signal that to other people who might ask "Is that a rolex?"

OK, so what I'm getting is that no one has bought one of these watches but that there are plenty of opinions on why others would and how that reflects upon them. Really helpful. Thanks all!

Same here. But it seems that buying fakes and homages direct from China is OK, ever though they have literal concentration camps operating right now. I get that many of our modern day products are made in China, that's difficult to get around, but buying direct from Chinese brands is something I try to avoid, because of you know, the rape and slavery and stuff...https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-china-557940...
