It'll be great to see it open again, I used to love cycling over there in the summer for a pint. The building itself is stunning to look at.
Thanks for the recommendations recently everyone, I met up with my sister and parents for Sunday lunch at the Fox at Willian yesterday. Excellent food and a good selection of beer. We'll be sure to visit there again soon.
The Lytton would actually make a great venue for a Herts PH meet. Thanks for the recommendations recently everyone, I met up with my sister and parents for Sunday lunch at the Fox at Willian yesterday. Excellent food and a good selection of beer. We'll be sure to visit there again soon.

That sounds like a plan - could get the pub on the map with some regular business & maybe draw in a few spectators too. I used to like the Ales in there back in the days. Be nice to see it up and running again globalfish said:

I know one of the chaps who runs ACI reasonably well! I could certainly have a quiet word if there was enough interest, although wouldn’t know where to start on organising! How does it normally work with PH meets?
It is also fair to say there is a healthy car scene in Herts, last year I went to Knebworth classic car show, the one at Stanborough Lakes and one at Tewin! All sorts of different metal at those few events..

I think it'd be a case of sorting with the landlord & getting a post up on here (Herts/Beds) then seeing what happens. Maybe the pub could do a charity type event - money for a local hospice or something worthwhile... How does it normally work with PH meets?

I like the Stanboro' show - had my pass last year and blew the engine up. £7K Ouch!
The A602's show at Stevenage is a good 'un too. Then there's Stotfold, Woolmer Green etc. Always missed Tewin unfortunately and I'm not a fan of Knebworth as a venue - I'm sure the cars are great I just haven't been too keen on other events I've attended there.
Nothing on the ACI website yet when I looked, any idea of timescale?
Looks like it is open on 17th May. I have been following it a little on twitter and the renovation looks good so far!
A touch confusing as the old website is still live, but the new one doesn't seem to appear in google yet. Regardless the new one is http://www.thelyttonarms.co.uk/
As a random beer option I poked my head into the Red Lion in Woolmer Green this weekend for the first time. Certainly not in the same league as ACI offerings 'style' wise but the LL and LL seemed a very nice couple and the beers were decent!
Also have recently frequented the Tilbury recently as that has a nice beer garden.
Just hope the weather picks up!

Blimey, didn't realise the Lytton Arms had been closed, but don't tend to go through Old Knebworth that much. Would be interested in attending a PH meet there as pretty local for me (the others on this board being a bit of trek)
The Tilbury this Friday evening just gone was excellent, couple of pints of Brakespears plus burger & chips, sitting out in their garden, fantastic.
Must get to some of the local shows. In case folk weren't aware, there's usually a small (but expensive if that chap brings his 300SL and GT1 merc) collection of classics on show at the Datchworth village fair in June as well.

To conclude on the above chat. The Lytton Arms is open from this evening. I strolled up there last night for a pre open evening ale and I must say they have done a cracking job. Still appears to be a proper drinkers pub, very good range of ales and the garden area has been totally transformed! Worth a detour if one is in the area, and I expect I will frequent regularly!
I did notice last night there was a cordoned off grass parking area for overflow (Knebworth Park side) that they were using which would suit a display of cars! So I am still thinking there could be a good little summers afternoon event. I'll let the dust settle on the opening before chatting to the LL.
Cheers

Had lunch at The Paris House in the grounds of Woburn Abbey on Sunday.
Great drive to get there, safe parking, lovely location and great food. Plus 27C which maybe doesn't happen every time you visit!

We've got a Tabure in Berkhamsted.
The food is pretty good. What lets it down is that they serve it tapas-style, so dishes arrive as they're ready and given the menu, that doesn't really work - you end up finishing with something that should be an accompaniment to another dish.
Plus the service at ours is pretty dreadful.
I really want it to get better. I'll try it again soon to see if it has.

Any suggestions for a good Sunday lunch in St Albans? I'm meeting a few friends, some of whom are travelling up by train so it would need to be within walking distance of the station.
Dylan's at the King's Arms or The Foragers at the Veralum Arms - both 15/20 minute walk from the station and down by the cathedral which is a nice spot. Not sure if Thompson at Darcy's does a Sunday Lunch? That is good as well.
ETA - they do http://www.thompsonstalbans.co.uk/menu/sunday-lunc...
£30 for 2 courses or £35 for 3 courses.
