Decent red wine for a tenner? (better than Barossa Ink)

Yesterday I popped in and saw the 2021 version @£9.99 you cite.
It has the green AB symbol on it which is the French ‘Agriculture Biologique’ = Organic Wine?
Not tasted it mind, but I suspect being £2 and 2 years younger it might not be the quality of the 2019 vintage but I’d suspect it’s not a bad wind either.
Ah, I could see the green symbol on the bottle but, as there was nothing on the price label on the shelf saying "Organic", I wasn't sure what it meant. It has the green AB symbol on it which is the French ‘Agriculture Biologique’ = Organic Wine?

That Porto 6 pricing surely isn’t right? It was on offer the other day £7!
Nope that is just about doable with the 25% off combined with any Nectar pricing. Actually beats what i paid for it from Portugal direct. So well done that fella. Edited by S6PNJ on Wednesday 4th October 21:51

The Guv'nor available from Majestic is an excellent quaffing red for about £8 a bottle.
I nearly didn't buy it for our Christmas party last year as it seemed too cheap but I tasted it and was sold. It drinks like a £15-20 bottle of wine
The Guv’nor is a blend of Tempranillo, sourced from multiple vineyards spread across Spain… grapes that aren’t good enough to make graded Rioja or Ribera. It costs somewhere between €3 and €5 in Spanish supermarkets (cheapest I’ve seen it is €2.87 in my local mercadona).
It’s a classic alcoholic ribeana… over concentrated fruit, lacking a balancing acidity and has no real complexity.
£15-20 buys a very good, graded, proper Rioja or Ribera. Or a bottle of something like Villa Antinori… waaaaay beyond The Guvnor.

Obviously wine is all about personal taste and i disagree with the above. I’m currently staying in a hotel converted from a prison and have enjoyed a few bottles of this below which I thought apt to bring along given the name.
It’s available at £9.99 a bottle if you buy 6. Personally I’ve found it far better than the likes of Marques de Zearra reserva and a lot of Vina Tondonia‘s wines at at least twice the price

I enjoy Vina Tondonia, as a special but not over-indulgent wine (I have bottles from a number of vintages between 2005 and 2011 in the cellar). I recently purchased some 2001 Vina Tondonia Gran Reserva which I’m saving for a special occasion as it’s more than 5 x the price!I’m now going to try and find this ‘The guv’nor’ VIP wine, thanks for the recommendation.

The VIP will probably be overly sweet if you are really into the vintages you mentioned. Personally, I enjoyed it as much or more than what I referenced but that’s down to personal taste I guess. Although I enjoy all wine
