Looks good may jujst get one of those rather than messing about.
There is a guy on CWS Facebook page selling a deflector set up for these, I've had pizza/deflector steels from him and they are really good quality, 5mm stainless.

sorry if a stupid question but why do you need a deflector?

For indirect grilling/roasting or smoking/low and slow cooking. The deflector diverts the direct heat from the coals up the sides.

The aldi Kamado comes with a deflector doesn't it? Pretty sure mine did but I've not actually fired it up yet

It does yes. This was in relation to the Lidl mini one.

Ordered one, can’t wait. Price is ridiculously good compared to others on the market.

Mine’s had a lot of use (and I mean a lot) but has a few issues now. The paint has pealed on the vent ring on top so it’s a mare to first open.

Also the welds on the grate have failed, so I’m left with three quarters of the cooking area.

Will test the warranty tomorrow, hoping they can ship the parts rather than offering a refund.

From what I've seen in various groups online Aldi have been pretty good with warranty claims. If you do end up with a refund then maybe look at the Masterbuilt kamado, at the lower end of the budget for kamados but is basically a first gen KJ I think.

Mine (Aldi) has been fautless for the 12 months or so I've had it and I've used it a lot, all year round.

So it’s finally arrived!

Quick question. In the manual it says place the heat deflector on the coal box. The heat deflector isn’t the same width and would just sit on, rather than above the coals. Surely that’s not right?

Still a very nice bit of kit for the price & bigger than expected!

Deflector sits on the bottom of the triangular frame that the grill sits on.

No problem.

If you want serious heat for searing steaks etc you can remove that frame altogether and the grill will sit on the rim of the fire bowl.

I wouldn't trust the dome thermometer for controlled temp cooks as on mine it reads around 10c lower than actual grill temp, I use a temp probe to measure grill temp.

Don't forget to "burp" it when opening the lid if you value your arm hair, especially at higher temps laugh
