Cover versions which are better than the original
Discussion
In preparation for seeing the great Roger McGuinn of Byrds fame, next Tuesday, I have been listening to 60 years of his music. A couple of covers that I have particularly enjoyed are 1) Bob Dylan's "The Times they are a changin" recorded at a live concert in Spain, and 2) George Harrison's "If I needed someone" from Rubber Soul. The interesting thing about "If I Needed Someone" is that George sent Roger a post card telling him that his guitar riffs on "The Bells of Rymney" inspired him to write the song using the exact same riffs for the opening. McGuinn's version is similar to the Beatles' version, but McGuinn's jangly12 string Rickenbacker is just so good.
