It’s a story line that I don’t recognise. Is it really a problem in the country? Not that I’m aware of, but perhaps that’s the point...
Its a big issue. As a developer we have specific policies, we have have to train our staff so that they can spot he signs when we have contractors and trades on site. Every member of staff undergoes this training and we contractually oblige contractors to comply with our policies on it.It’s a story line that I don’t recognise. We have had to stop jobs and report companies where the issue has come to light, often with sub-contractors and semi skilled trades.
Its a key part of our integrity checks that run to heart of our governance along with health and safety.

I have to admit as a long time listener since Nigel jumped out at people in a Gorilla outfit, I've lost interest in the Archers, the monolog had me turn the radio off and since I haven't bothered to catch every episode. perhaps I'll re-engage in the future.
My wife is the same. when the first lockdown happened in March, the BBC went into full-on panic mode, and fked up most of their programming for several months.Everyone else just took a breath and made the necessary changes to enable things to continue.

It's an issue here in Cornwall. Last year 4 people were charged after smuggling in 29 "workers" from Vietnam. There's even a Modern Slavery task force within Devon & Cornwall Police. As you say, it's often our most vulnerable people.
Same in Cumbria. Brought in to run the weed farms, provide cheap labour and act as scapegoats. Horrible trade.Doofus said:

I quickly found I couldn't stomach The New Archers.....and now I don't think I could care less about them. (Spend most of my day on Times Radio, where a load of previous BBC people ended up and lost interest in R4 in favour of podcasts so I can get the sort of things I want, when I want. The Archers was a casualty once I realised how disappointing a listen it was becoming. I am sure they didn't need to do things that way.....)
