Who Has The Best Single Garage?
Discussion
On the above car storage front, I've also got a rented single garage in my possession... simple, five in a block thing so only the main door but reasonably high ceiling so a scaffolder mate built a frame just above car roof height, a table if you like and then we boarded it do it gives a sorted of full width, 8ft deep mezzanine floor above the car for storing crap. Works ok, cost nothing and holds a surprising amount of stuff.
Here's mine with a new garage door, i bought the house with the old one literally hanging off.
Once the door was fitted I then discovered the car wouldn't fit, not from obvious dimensions of the car and more from a short steep incline from the road. I added sleepers, screwed to the floor inside the garage so the car wouldn't beach itself.
Not the prettiest and needs some interior work to spruce it up a bit but has a water supply and some electrics which is an upgrade from the previous house. Also reasonable storage with 2 racks at the back with the corner left for a spare set of wheels.

There's been a few BEFORE and AFTER's... I'm still on the Before part.
Today was however a GREAT day.
My car is currently parked in a rather expensive (£240 a month) car storage place.
We moved house and now finally have our own garage, a rarity in our part of London.
First issue on the initial attempt was bottoming out. The pavement in front of the garage has a steep drop to the road. The Road has a large camber. The result, you approach the garage nose down, and have to overcome a steep up to the garage.
Waffle boards to the rescue, though I'm pretty nervous that they'll move as they cannot be screwed down.
Once the gradients were overcome, I always knew I could get the car in, however I was less sure if I could open a door and get out of the car!
Anyway... It FITTED and... I could open the door and get out!! Definitely need to put some carpet on the wall though.
However, the lintel is broken, the roof is asbestos and we need to do a fair amount of work before I can keep the car in there.
For the moment, here it is...

Cool car Mister!
Think you win at the game of "best car in the worst garage".
Manmaths would suggest that you need to pull the whole thing down and get the biggest garage you can rebuilt on the site.
After a complete disaster with the first builder, things have since vastly improved!Think you win at the game of "best car in the worst garage".

OK so in defence of my eligibility claim I've attached some more pictures. The garage has a single entrance (see Ginetta in drive) but widens by a metre halfway down. I had to make it a vaulted ceiling to accommodate my VW camper pop top but put a small mezzanine over the entrance for my son and his mates to hang out, put in a cheap projector for movies although in the picture they are watching the European Cup (picture taken standing in the bifold door area). As a very useful tip to all of you, by making it a 'Cinema & entertaining space' I managed to secure extra funds from the household budget :-).
I'm sure that's my old G20. Great car to drive.Gassing Station | Homes, Gardens and DIY | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
