It’s a lot wider than it looks from that pic fortunately. Plenty of space either side to get in/out (and store 265 wide tyres either side). The only part that is a slight faff is pushing it the last 10cm but tbh only takes a minute.
You mean pushing it so you can nudge it up to the back wall?
Why not fit some stops behind the back wheels so you can reverse up to them and you'll never hit the wall?
That's what we do with our Figgy (but it's in a double garage, so doesn't count!)
Last single garage I had: best mod I made was screwing a square of carpet tile by the car door to avoid scratching it!

My garage is damp, untidy, grotty and very overcrowded but I don't care. Everything I do from there gives me some kind of satisfaction.

I rebuild, repair and service all my cars and bikes out of it. I've not paid a garage to do a single job for 20 years.

I can't even give you a decent picture of it as I can't get the car out at the moment!

It's far from the 'best' single garage but it's all mine and I love having it. It's pretty well equipped with a welder, press, work bench and just about every hand tool.

At least you can get a car in there 😆

Technically still a single garage, as the footprint was doubled (DIY project, I did everything bar the footings and the brick/blockwork) but not increasing area for cars! (but the extra room freed up enough space for me to "temporarily" store my 205 in the actual garage half, as its the parents garage, but now they have a decent utility/workshop and outside loo & dog shower space as a trade off!)

That is my idea of heaven, I’d sleep in there too. cool

My daily at the time for a size reference… the TVR is small! The alfa is 10mm from the back wall, before I fitted the Sealey units - the garage door would just close and I had to push the car in as the doors wouldn’t open enough for me to get out, once the car was in.

How do you manage to push it in, as it's an auto?

That looks so much nicer now!

Great point, I might be talking nonsense - it was a few years and a few cars ago. I must have somehow slinkied out the mostly closed door!

About 10 years ago had my single garage boarded out/insulated/new floor/door and a storage room created above. I have a separate double garage size timber workshop full of all the usual garden/cycles/DIY stuff.

When does a single stop becoming a single? Mine is 7m long and 4m wide, cant squeeze 2 cars in!

I built a 1.2m walk in cupboard along the back for all the stuff

That looks brilliant, and I think 5m wide would make it double so that's a long, wide, single!

Day 1 when we first moved in it was full.of thr previous owners crap. It's not a single, but its not a double either so it's cheating a bit.

After some skips and racking

Bit not quite wide enough nor long enough for 2 cars through the doors. Which obviously means it can fit lot of bikes. Eventually.

It's pretty old. They don't build then like this any more.

When I daydream for houses, a garage like that is what I'm looking for. Wide and clean enough to get some serious detailing done.

Only thing I'd do in addition is getting the floor screeded to falls with a central drain. Then I could wash the car indoors as well.

I can but dream. It will happen one day...

Some inspirational transformations there.

My garage is a mess. West Yorkshire is a damp, damp place and so is the garage. I think the concrete floor, which is very rough and cracked, receives some water from being blown under the door and some by condensation. I would love to sort it out.

For those guys who have lovely smooth concrete floors, how did you do them? Did you dig out and lay new concrete? Levelling compound? Not talking about interlocking tiles and Costco roll out flooring, but getting a good floor before that goes on.

Also how have people tackled the overall project and in what order? I can boarded ceilings, light panels, cable in conduit, painted walls and new doors.

Only got the before shot so far, might be end of 2022 before after shot!

Moved in to house 6 months ago and garage been used to store furniture before getting it into the house, 2 new bathroom suites which have just about been installed

It's a long garage and i'm leaning towards turning the bottom bit into a home office accessed from door on side

Got kitchen diner to deal with next though and trying to get quotes in for new steelwork and knocking down dividing wall between kitchen and dining room plus potentially a small extension

I have half a single, other half became a utility room. Was going to get it back but we decided to abandon the extension plans as was going to be 150 grand by the time we finished and we realised the kids were moving out. It works quite well for what it is but obviously never going to get a car in and have to limit any work to decent days. Got a big cabin in the garden but cant get a car to it.
