Literally just seen a walk in emergency patient back who's just come back from Turkey. He's had FOURTEEN root canals in a week and literally all of his teeth crowned. Was having pain and now needs a fifteenth root canal for which hes going to fly back. Awful treatment. All of his healthy natural teeth have been butchered and are now unlikely to last a lifetime. Be warned.
He clearly was an idiot for going to the wrong place and not doing his due diligence. I presume his crowns are 'Rylan white' which may give some indication of his intellect and the decision to destroy his natural teeth. The NHS dentists destroyed mine in the 70s when they saw the chance to make a quick buck so I didn't have to travel that far.

Somewhat unusual he had crowns as the default seems to be veneers which were perhaps outside the competence of his chosen dentist?

I had no root canal treatment as none was necessary. I'm know you're aware Cringle old chum, a tooth doesn't require root canal treatment to be crowned.

Over 2yrs in and I'm very satisfied with my treatment. Thanks for prompting me to update.

FWIW, I had dental treatment in Turkey as well and am very happy with it.

Probably a slightly different circumstance; I spend some time on Turkey every year due to having links out there and needed a dental check-up due to some slight pain. It wasn't urgent and I had planned to book a slot in the UK but ex-pat friends in Turkey suggested seeing a dentist locally and I followed up on it. The work was pretty small-scale (inspection, clean and de-scale, replace a failed filling and an extraction) but the dentist came highly recommended and what I could see all looked very professional. The end of the story is that the total price was less than £160 and I'm very happy with what was done and the quality of the work.

I'm glad that AS had a good result - I'm sure that the HUGE saving would be an added bonus to being happy with the work.

You mention the patient's intellect. As the professional in the room it's the dentist's responsibility to ensure treatment is appropriate, that the patient truly understands everything including risks/benefits/outcomes in order to obtain truly informed consent. This is tailored to each patient so people of all intellects understand. For example in the UK we sometimes have to use assessment and psych forms in line with the Mental Capacity Act for patients deemed unable to make their own decisions. In Turkey it's like a cattle farm in some clinics. One of my staff who I recruited had already had her teeth crowned out there. They prepared 24 of her teeth in less than 2 hours!!! In and out. The damage to her teeth beneath the crowns is unfathomable. They also then had to do 4 root canals for her later as the nerves died in some of the teeth. Awful.
